Last Friday 27 March, we held our annual Tally CommUNITY Day, which marks a day of unity for community wellbeing, kindness and antibullying.
Some of the highlights enjoyed by students included:
- Morning Moves (a school exercise tradition).
- a special guest E-Presentation from Courtney Monsma who starred as Princess Anna in the Australian premiere production of Frozen: The Musical. Courtney is a Tallebudgera State School past student and shared an inspiring message with our students. Parents and carers can view the interview with Courtney on ClassDojo.
- Wellbeing activities focused on the four Tally Way Habits, Gratitude, Optimism Empathy and Self-Regulations. Parents and carers joined in activities about Optimism in the morning.
- a "Bullying, no way!" disco.
- receiving a Tally CommUNITY Day "Be Kind" handball as a memento (thanks to YMCA).
- a whole school picnic with parents, carers and special guests.
Thank you to all parents, carers and special guests who joined us throughout the day, from coffees and conversation for the adults in the morning, time in classrooms, to our whole school picnic!

Year 3 Bottle Rocket Challenge
Following their recent measurement unit in Mathematics, Mr Gordon guided students through an exciting bottle rocket science experiment. Each class designed and built their own rocket using recycled materials and a plastic bottle, with the goal of launching it the furthest distance.
Each rocket was filled to one-quarter capacity with water and pressurised with air before launch towards the oval. There were some memorable moments throughout the day! Archer Collins put in a tremendous effort pumping up the 3 Blue & Yellow's 20L bottle, only to discover a leak that prevented take-off. Meanwhile, 3 Purple designed a 1L rocket with large wooden wings, and Hutch Greedy did a fantastic job pumping it up for a successful launch.
Frankie Quilty achieved the highest take-off of the day with 3 Red’s 1L bottle rocket, while Alfie Jessop launched the smallest rocket - a 200mL bottle for 3 Green which ultimately travelled the furthest distance and was announced the winner.
Through this hands-on experiment, students discovered that rockets with less mass and smaller capacity tended to travel further, bringing their measurement learning to life in a fun and engaging way.
