Term 3 has kicked off with fantastic energy and enthusiasm from our Year 5 students!

 

We would like to congratulate Ms Hope on her new role as our English Learning Leader and give a warm welcome Ms Cooper, who will be teaching 5E on Mondays and Tuesdays, with Ms Hope continuing in the classroom for the remainder of the week.


**🌟 School Production – Madagascar Jr.**Our students have been working incredibly hard rehearsing for our upcoming school production of Madagascar Jr. The excitement is building, and we can't wait to see their talents shine on stage!

🏀 Year 5 Sport – Round Robin Fun We launched our Term 3 sport program with a friendly round robin against the Year 4s. Students showcased the skills they developed last term in their respective sports, demonstrating teamwork, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm. It was a seamless and spirited start to the term!


📚 English – Novel Study & Literacy Skills We begun exploring the historical novel Do You Dare? Eureka Boys 1854, diving into the world of the Gold Rush.

In Reading, we’re focusing on:

  • Predicting and inferring
  • Vocabulary development
  • Characterisation, point of view, and perspective
  • Comprehension (literal and inferential), with full sentence responses

In Writing, students are:

  • Planning narratives using structured story elements (orientation, build-up, climax, resolution, ending)
  • Writing engaging orientations
  • Using checklists to support editing and improvement

🔤 Spelling & Grammar

  • Spelling: Regular and irregular plural nouns
  • Grammar: Subordinate conjunctions to enhance sentence complexity

➖ Mathematics – Subtraction Unit We have started our subtraction unit, building on prior knowledge and applying strategies to solve problems with confidence and accuracy.


🌏 Humanities – History Focus Our history unit has begun with an exploration of migration to Australia in the 1800s. Students are learning about the push and pull factors that influenced people to move across the globe.


💬 Social & Emotional Learning This term, our SEL focus is Positive Gender Relations, promoting respect, inclusion, and understanding among peers.


🏞️ Excursion Alert – Sovereign Hill Our upcoming excursion to Sovereign Hill is now live on Compass! It promises to be a long but exciting day full of hands-on learning and historical exploration.💰 Students are welcome to bring up to $20.00 to spend at Sovereign Hill.


🛌 Pajama Day Fun We wrapped up Term 2 with a cozy and cheerful Pajama Day! It was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of a rich and rewarding term.


📊 NAPLAN Results NAPLAN results have now gone home. We are incredibly proud of our students for their efforts and achievements. These results provide valuable insights into each child’s progress in literacy and numeracy, helping us tailor our teaching to better support their learning journey. They also help students understand their strengths and areas for growth, building confidence and resilience.
