The Feast of the Sacred Heart is a celebration of Jesus’ warm, compassionate and tender love. By staying close to Jesus, we can be warmed by the fire of his love for us. Jesus was full of compassion for those who most needed his love – the poor, the heavy-hearted, the lost, the lonely, the weak and needy. At times we, too, can feel this way; we can feel ‘poor’ in spirit. Jesus showed us God’s love by the way he lived his life, and in his care of the poor, the lonely, the sick and the outcast. Through his example, He taught us how to love and care for others in our community.
This feast provides us with an opportunity to remember, in a special way, the poor and marginalised in our community and in our world. We are asked to stand in solidarity with all members of our human family, striving for the common good of all humankind demonstrating our mission to share the love of Jesus with all our brothers and sisters.
One way, we who have plenty, can open our hearts and share with our less fortunate brothers and sisters is by donating to the St Vinnie's Appeal. All donations are gratefully accepted. Please send your donations to school by Tuesday 24th June.
This year, the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is celebrated on Friday 27th June.
At St Louis' we will be celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart Mass on Thursday 26th June at 9.15am in the hall.
Let us pray that we will be touched by the unconditional love of Jesus who loves us with a burning heart.
O God, you showed your love in human form through your Son, Jesus.
His tender heart broke open in compassion for the sufferings of this world.
May we learn to love with the heart of Jesus.
We ask this prayer in his name. Amen.
On Tuesday the Year 1 students and families celebrated a wonderful liturgy together focussing on the importance of loving one another and loving our enemies. God asks us to "Love your enemies," and by understanding that even though someone might have wronged us, showing kindness and respect can help bring out the good in them. Demonstrating God's love, while setting a good example for others, can potentially turn an enemy into a friend.
It can also be a reminder to treat everyone with the same kindness and respect they would want to receive, even when they don't deserve it. We never know the circumstance that made a person the way they are, but by being kind to them, we might be able to bring out the goodness in every human being.
Thank you to the families who were able to attend, thank you to the teachers who prepared the students beautifully and thank you especially to the Year 1 students who participated reverently and sang delightfully.
Just a reminder for Year 5 and Year 6 students and their families, that we have our Spirit-Filled Family Night on Tuesday 24th June held at St Brigid's Church at 7pm.
We are so fortunate to have Roseanne Rofaeel the founder of COTS (Christmas on the Streets) come to share with us about her work with the homeless in Melbourne.
She truly is a Spirit-Filled Person and extremely inspiring. We hope you can all make it. I promise you it will be a very valuable evening.
