Principal's Views

As we head towards the end of Term 2, there have been some highlights over the last couple of weeks and a few important events coming up. Students participating in Performing Arts this semester are gearing up for their end of term performances. Students can practise at home using the videos on seesaw.  Performances are taking place on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th June at 2:30pm – it is a free concert, however we would appreciate a gold coin donation (on the day) to go towards the cost of the stage. Look out for the flyer on Compass and below.

Student Led Conference bookings are open and will be held in week 10 on Wednesday the 25th June from 10am-6pm.  Please book in via Compass. This is an opportunity for your child to share their progress and achievements from the first half of the year. It is also an opportunity for you to discuss your child's progress with their teacher.

To book in a conference for your child between 10am and 6pm, use the Community menu in Compass and select the 2025 Semester 1 Student Led Conferences, or use the link from your child's Compass dashboard. Students are only required to attend school during their meeting.

Attendance reminder

A friendly reminder to please record the accurate reason for your child’s absence when notifying the school via Compass. For example, if your child is unwell, please select ‘medical/illness’ rather than ‘parent choice’ Accurate reporting helps us maintain clear records and support student wellbeing..

Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS)

Over the last few weeks, our students in Years 4-6 have been participating in the annual Attitudes to School Survey.  The survey promotes student voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction to find out how our students feel about the school.

Students were asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity and life in general.

The information collected from the survey is used to understand student views to plan programs and activities to improve your child’s schooling experience.  We look forward to seeing the results from our students and further exploring how they feel about their time about EVPS.

Refugee Week

Next week is Refugee Week, a time when schools across Australia celebrate diversity and honour the resilience, courage, and contributions of refugees.

EVPS is proud to be part of the Refugee Education Support Program (RESP), a department-funded initiative led by the Centre for Multicultural Youth and Foundation House. The program helps our school support the achievement, engagement, and wellbeing of students from refugee backgrounds.

This year’s theme, “Finding Freedom,” highlights the importance of diverse communities in offering safety, belonging, and hope. It reflects the difficult journeys many refugees take in search of freedom and a better future.

Communities provide more than just a place to live—they offer connection, strength, and support. When we embrace diversity, we create spaces where everyone feels safe, valued, and empowered. Next week and beyond, we celebrate the inclusive communities that welcome and support those seeking refuge.

Reconciliation Week and Wear it Yellow Day

We recently came together to acknowledge National Reconciliation Week, reflecting on the importance of building respectful relationships and understanding the shared histories and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We embraced the theme “Bridging Now to Next” as a reminder of our role in creating a more inclusive future. You can see some photos from the drawing club on the Visual Arts page in this newsletter and the photos below from some of our grade 5s.

During this time, we also participated in Wear it Yellow Day to support Children’s Ground, proudly standing in solidarity with First Nations communities. Through these meaningful events, our school community celebrated culture, raised awareness, and contributed to positive change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
