St Luke's... "nurturing faith filled, curious children to become creative contributors and innovative problem solvers for a changing world."
Dear Parents and Carers
We are delighted to inform you that the semester reports for your child will be released next week. These reports provide a valuable snapshot of your child's progress and achievements throughout the semester. However, it is important to remember that formal semester reports are just one aspect of our comprehensive approach to reporting student progress.
At St Luke’s, we believe in fostering a strong partnership between parents, students, and teachers. We understand that a complete understanding of your child's educational journey requires multiple perspectives. With this in mind, we employ four elements of reporting to parents that ensure a well-rounded assessment of your child's growth and development.
Student-Led Conferences: Student-led conferences are an integral part of our reporting process. These conferences provide an opportunity for your child to reflect upon their accomplishments, set goals, and engage in a meaningful conversation with you about their academic journey. By actively involving students in the reporting process, we empower them to take ownership of their learning and develop essential communication skills. This year, in response to parent feedback expressing a desire to connect with each specialist teacher, we have adjusted the format of our Year 7–12 conferences. Parents will now have the opportunity to meet briefly with each teacher. We kindly ask that you continue to support student-led conversations during these meetings, as this approach helps build students’ confidence in sharing and reflecting on their learning.
Online Dashboard: Our online dashboard offers a comprehensive view of your child's progress and growth over time. This platform allows you to access real-time information about your child's academic performance, attendance records, and social-emotional development. The dashboard serves as a valuable tool for tracking your child's overall progress and identifying areas of strength and improvement. This dashboard provides a more extensive examination of your child’s ability and also their growth across multiple years.
Student Work: Regular access to your child's work is essential in understanding their learning process. For students in grades K-6, we utilise Seesaw as a platform for sharing student work samples, projects, and assignments. For students in grades 7-12, Canvas serves as the hub for accessing and submitting assignments, viewing progress, and engaging in interactive learning materials. These platforms enable you to explore your child's work and gain insight into their efforts and achievements.
We believe that by employing these four elements of reporting, we can provide you with a holistic view of your child's progress and achievements. Our goal is to facilitate open communication and collaboration between parents, students, and teachers, ensuring the best possible educational experience for your child.
This year, we also engaged Academic Services Australia to complete some assessment of students in years 4, 6, 8 and 10- those years who do not complete NAPLAN reports. This information is part of a new whole-school approach to ensuring that we are supporting those students still developing their skill set in the foundational skills of reading, writing and mathematics. This serves us to ensure that each child grows in their capabilities at an expected rate. This data can be viewed on Compass, and on our online dashboard.
We encourage you to review your child's formal semester report and utilise the other reporting tools available to gain a deeper understanding of their academic journey. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the reports or any aspect of your child's education, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or the school administration. We are here to support you and your child every step of the way.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership in your child's education. Together, we can nurture their growth, celebrate their achievements, and empower them to reach their full potential.
