Health Centre News

As we head into the end-of-term break, it’s the perfect time to give your child a quick head lice check. Head lice are a common issue in primary schools, and while they’re nothing to be alarmed about, they do spread easily through close contact—especially among young children.
What to Look For:
- Itching or scratching of the scalp, especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck.
- Tiny eggs (nits) attached to hair shafts close to the scalp.
- Live lice, which are small, wingless insects that move quickly.
What You Can Do:
- Use a fine-toothed lice comb on wet, conditioned hair to check for lice.
- If lice or nits are found, treat promptly with a recommended lice treatment from your pharmacy. Make sure you repeat the treatment 1 week later.
- Repeat the combing every few days for at least two weeks to ensure all lice and eggs are removed.
- Check all family members and treat if necessary.
Regular checks at home help prevent lice from spreading when school resumes. If you would like further information please see the link below.
