Mr Brad Cotterell
Well done, Year 9s – you have officially made it to the end of Term Two! While it may have only been a nine-week term, it definitely felt longer – especially with the flood of assessments and deadlines that came in the final stretch. You have worked hard, and I hope you are proud of what you have achieved.
Over the past few weeks, you have also been involved in some really important and fun events. Armed for Life visited to speak about vaping – and it wasn’t your usual “don’t do it” talk. The presenter shared real-life stories of young people who had become addicted, and how it affected more than just their lungs – their mental health, relationships, ability to focus and emotional wellbeing were all impacted. It was an eye-opening and informative session and a valuable reminder about making sensible and healthy choices for ourselves.
We also had our fantastic night out at Escape This! It was brilliant to see so many of you there. We kicked off the evening with music and pizza on the rooftop, then jumped into the escape room challenges just around the corner. The energy, teamwork, and laughs were unforgettable – especially from the “Entombed” crew, whose dramatic screams could be heard throughout the building!
Lastly, a big shout-out to everyone who took part in the NWAS carnivals. Thankfully, the weather held up, and it was great to see you representing our school with enthusiasm and pride on the field.
Have a safe, happy and warm holiday – you have earned it.
Congratulations Year 10s – you have made it through one of the more challenging terms of the year! The exam period was tough for many of you, and I know there were moments of stress and uncertainty - but there were also some important lessons learned along the way.
Time management and planning came up as key areas to improve – and that’s okay. These skills take time to build and will serve you well not just at school, but in life beyond it. Another big takeaway was developing resilience – not just when results don’t go your way, but in how you reflect, adapt, and grow from the experience.
One of the real highlights this term was Work Experience. It’s been fantastic hearing all your exciting work based stories – the good, the surprising, and even the “never again” ones. Whether it confirmed your interest in a certain field or made you realise a job wasn’t what you expected, it was a valuable step toward your future. More importantly, the feedback from employers has been overwhelmingly positive. You presented yourselves with maturity, curiosity, and enthusiasm – true ambassadors of St George’s. Well done Year 10s and Thank You.
Now it is time to take a deep breath and enjoy the break. I look forward to seeing you to commence Semester Two.
