Congratulations to Emily (pictured third from left) and Serena (pictured second from right with the team) on achieving the DWA qualification standard to represent Diving WA at the 2025 Pacific Junior International Diving Championships in Wellington later this year.

The competition is an international event and requires a high standard of the Junior A/B/C list of dives to compete alongside International Junior teams.

The DWA coaching team will support training over the coming months to ensure Emily is at her best and feels confident about this competition. The Pacific Junior International Diving Championships will be at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre, New Zealand.

Diya, Year 11

Diya arrived at St George’s from India just over a year ago and was recently selected as the 2025 Youth Parliamentarian for the electorate of Perth!

Diya will work alongside other inspiring young leaders to draft, debate and propose real legislation reflecting the voices of WA’s youth!

Diya says about St George’s: “Moving to Perth as an international student was a significant change, but St George’s quickly made it feel like home. The community here is incredibly welcoming, and I’ve made amazing friends who have helped me settle in and thrive. What stands out the most is how much the teachers care. They don’t just teach content—they take the time to get to know you, support you, and encourage you to grow. I've been able to try things I never thought I would, like debating, Youth Parliament, and even drumming. The school has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and discover who I am. It has helped me feel confident, connected, and excited for what lies ahead.’’

Ella, Year 10

Ella just completed her Silver Level for the Duke of Edinburgh Award and has already begun working towards her Gold. She’s also heading off on the upcoming Anglicare Samoa Service-Learning trip, which ties in beautifully with her commitment to service.

Ella has been incredibly proactive, having completed her entire Bronze Award just last year. She’s a fantastic example of a student making the most of every opportunity.

Jethro and Nick were both selected into the national team for NFL and will be heading to Brisbane and the Gold Coast these holidays to compete against some of the top teams in the country. This is a fantastic achievement that reflects their hard work, dedication and passion for the sport. We wish them the very best of luck and can’t wait to hear all about their experience when they return — let's go boys!

Ronan, Year 10

Ronan
Ronan

Not only did Ronan take his coffee-making skills to the next level by doing work experience next door at Game City coffee shop, he also helped our Admin Team as part of Work Experience Week. Having been the school's resident volunteer barista for some time now, Ronan – who enjoys making coffees for staff under Mrs Gamble’s supervision – added another string to his bow helping Mr Emery with maintenance, Mrs Quartermain with photography and fellow Admin staff with a multitude of tasks. Last year Game City owner Mesh gave Lucas the same opportunity to increase his skills during World of Work. Thank you Mesh and well done on being such an all-rounder Ronan.

Seb, Year 9

Seb recently volunteered at Perth’s BiG Day In conference, an event that gives Year 9–12 students a unique chance to explore the world of technology and gain insight into university life. Here’s what Seb had to say about his experience:

“My role was to photograph the exhibitors, presenters, and other notable guests — including Premier Roger Cook, who attended on Wednesday morning — across the two venues: Joondalup ECU on the first day and Kwinana Arts Centre on the second. After each day, I selected around 50 of the best photos to share via a Google Drive link.

“I really enjoyed the whole experience, but my favourite part was listening to the exhibitors and presenters. Before this week, I had no idea just how many tech-related roles exist across these companies and agencies.”

Seb’s photos will appear on the ACS Foundation and the BiG Day In digital platforms.

Seb often volunteers to be an official photographer for St George’s whole-school events, with his photos appearing in The Dragon.

Bonnie, Year 8

Bonnie is flying to Adelaide on 5 July to represent WA in the Australian Calisthenics Federation National Championships. Bonnie is in a team of girls who have trained extensively for the past seven months. We wish you every success and much fun on your trip, Bonnie!

Abi, Ben, Julian, Ruth, Year 10

During the School Holidays the 22nd St George’s Cathedral Art Exhibition will take place. The exhibition is on from 12 - 20th July and open to the general public in the Cathedral. The official opening for participants, parents and teachers is on 17th July.

Mr Hayward, Miss P and Mr Dempers – Winner’s Podium

St George’s teachers have many talents but who have guessed that precision go-karting was one. In a pre-holiday social gathering of staff at a Perth go-karting venue, a bunch of St George’s teachers raced each other on the track. Mr Hayward was first past the post, followed by Miss P and Mr Dempers (third).

What talents will you pursue over the holidays? Have a wonderful winter holiday.
