Push-Up and Lap-A-Thon triumph
Over 23 action-packed days this term, the St George’s community united in strength and support as we took on The Push-Up Challenge. This national initiative shines a spotlight on mental health by encouraging participants to complete a daily target of push-ups based on real mental health statistics in Australia.
With a shared goal of raising awareness, promoting movement, and sparking conversation, our students and staff stepped up – literally – to show their support. Whether participants were doing push-ups, squats, or lunges, the message was clear: mental health matters, and we are stronger together.
We’re incredibly proud to announce that St George’s completed a grand total of 29,450 push-ups across the challenge! We had 23 enthusiastic participants, with the highest individual contributors (Ben Humphreys, John Skinner, Aaron Tam and Harv Miller), completing an impressive 3,214push-ups. What an achievement! Adding even more energy to the event were our Tuesday and Thursday themed lunchtime sessions, which transformed the Fitness Centre into a hub of movement and motivation.
Themes included:
These sessions brought fun, laughter, and a strong sense of community to the challenge.
A massive thank you and shout-out to our incredible student ambassadors, Benji Yan and Jay Kapica, whose passion and organisation brought the challenge to life at our school.
From promoting the event at Chapel to leading lunchtime sessions and encouraging participation, their leadership and commitment were the main key to our success.
This was more than a fitness challenge – it was a statement that at St George’s, we care about each other’s wellbeing. We are proud to have been part of a national movement that not only raises awareness but helps break the stigma surrounding mental health. Here’s to staying active, supporting one another, and continuing the conversation – one push-up at a time.
Back at the beginning of term, all year groups took part in Service Learning activities in celebration of St George’s Day. Our Year 10 students participated in a Lap-A-Thon to raise funds for the Starlight Foundation, and throughout the term, our dedicated Anglicare Ambassadors have been busy collecting donations. We are thrilled to share that the Year 10 cohort raised an incredible $1302.40 – a truly outstanding effort!
A huge congratulations to our Year 10 students for your commitment and generosity. Your contributions help bring moments of joy, laughter, and hope to seriously ill children across Australia through Starlight’s vital programs, including Captain Starlight, hospital playrooms, and Starlight Wishes. Your efforts are making a real difference.
Term Three is shaping up to be a powerful and purposeful time at St George’s as we dive into a series of Service Learning events that encourage compassion, inclusion and social awareness across our community. Each initiative highlights an important cause, giving students the chance to take meaningful action, support those in need, and strengthen our culture of care.
Hoodies for Homelessness Day Week 2
To raise awareness for youth homelessness and support Anglicare WA’s School Sleep Out, students are invited to wear a hoodie with their school uniform for a gold coin donation.
This simple act of solidarity symbolises warmth and empathy for the many young people in Western Australia facing homelessness each night. All funds raised will go towards crucial services supporting at-risk youth.
Anglicare Optus Sleep Out Week 3
Our dedicated Year 10 Anglicare Ambassadors will take part in the Anglicare WA Optus Stadium Sleep Out, swapping their school bags for sleeping bags for a night under the stars. This eye-opening experience raises much-needed funds for Street Connect, a mobile outreach service helping young people aged 15–25 who are sleeping rough. With Street Connect relying solely on donations, every dollar counts – and so does every effort to spread awareness.
Wear It Purple Day Week 6
Wear It Purple Day is a national celebration of inclusion and belonging for LGBTQIA+ youth. On this day, our school community will wear a purple accessory to visibly show support and commitment to creating a safe and respectful space for all students. It’s not about promoting a specific identity; it is about promoting understanding, empathy, and pride in who we are, and who we stand beside.
Sleep Out at 441 Week 6
Selected Year 7–9 students will participate in our annual Sleep Out in the CBD, held this year at the Level 2 Courtyard in our brand-new building. Through a range of activities and reflective experiences, students will gain a deeper understanding of what life might be like for those sleeping rough. It’s a powerful opportunity to walk in someone else’s shoes and reflect on the small things we often take for granted.
RUOK? Day Week 8
This year, our school will once again honour RUOK? Day, a National Day of Action that reminds us of the importance of checking in with the people around us. Through workshops, conversations, and student-led activities, we will reinforce the message that a simple question – “Are you OK?” – can make a big difference in someone’s life. Together, we’ll continue building a culture of connection and support where no one feels alone.
These events are more than just dates on a calendar – they are lived experiences of empathy, action, and community spirit. We encourage all students to get involved, embrace the learning, and make a real difference this term. Further details regarding each of these will be available in Term Three!
Let’s give back, stand up, and show the heart of St George’s in all we do.
