Marble Runs- IEC STEM
Our IEC STEM students built marble runs as part of their exploration into fundamental physics concepts, including friction, gravity, and kinetic energy. The runs were then displayed in the Library, with students and teachers coming down to have a go.
"I Am Australian" Poem Diorama- IEC HASS
Students in IEC HASS 2 have been exploring the iconic Australian poem I Am Australian by Bruce Woodley. Each student selected a stanza from the poem to inspire a diorama, using mixed media to represent key elements of Australian geography, history, and culture. As part of the project, the class collaborated to write about the historical and geographical features shown in their dioramas, deepening their understanding of Australia's rich and diverse identity.

World of Watercolour- IEC Art
Students in IEC have been working on developing their watercolour painting techniques, layering colours and effects on top of each other to create an imaginative image.
This mini exhibit, "A world of Watercolour" explores the expressive and versatile nature of watercolour. It features a diverse range of works, from delicate landscapes to bold and detailed animal images, showcasing the unique qualities of the medium. From delicate washes to bold strokes, be inspired and discover a range of artistic expressions, all united by the magic of colour and water.
Showcasing a range of artworks, students also had the opportunity to develop ideas for Postcards and bookmarks. This allowed the students to send a letter with a personal touch; giving their families back home a glimpse into what they get up to here at Northlake.”
Pop Art Pets- Year 12 Art
Our year 12 students have been looking into the Pop Art genre made popular in the 1950’s and 1960’s alongside developing their knowledge of colour theory. Pop Art often uses bold, primary colours and flat, large-scale, compositions. Students have taken a beloved family pet and showcased their personality using bold shapes and complimentary colour schemes.
Fauvist Landscapes- Art
These are Fauvist inspired landscapes. Fauvism was an art moment made popular in the early 20th century and is characterised by bold vibrant colours and expressive brush strokes. It was the first time in history that artists moved away from traditional colourings and instead opted to draw and paint with more emotive and expressive techniques, thus adopting a colour palette that depicted how the scene made them feel, rather than naturalistic colours.
The IEC students have learnt about Fauvism and have stepped out of their comfort zone to focus on how a scene might make them feel. Students focused on the colour wheel, learning how colours can affect how a person views and interprets an artwork. Learning about colours and how they can work in harmony together to compliment and enrich a scene.
