Student Activities

Encompass

On Wednesday 4th of June, PRC students volunteered their time at Encompass Care. During this time, students and Education Support staff Sarah and Ta helped make food parcels, stock shelves, take out the rubbish and complete other tasks given to them by the Encompass staff.

The tasks were done with enthusiasm and a willingness to help from each student and staff member. One student even stacked the shelves to fit more than it would normally hold! Encompass Care is a great way to teach the students workplace skills and build empathy for those who are less fortunate and in need of our help. Even packing food parcels helps the community in such a big way.

Each student worked extremely hard, which in turn provided hands-on experience of what the workforce will be like, while helping the community at the same time. Students and staff always love coming to volunteer at Encompass Care and helping a great cause in the community.

The Sausage Sizzle - Fundraising Barbeque for homelessness project

Students from our school recently rolled up their sleeves and donned their aprons for a sausage sizzle event at Bunnings Mernda, raising vital funds for a homelessness project. This initiative was part of Plenty River College’s ongoing commitment to community service, social responsibility and cultivating work-related skills in the learners.

The sausage sizzle, a much-loved Aussie tradition, provided students with the opportunity to develop valuable employability and life skills - including communication, teamwork, organisational, planning, and technical skills - while making a meaningful contribution to those experiencing homelessness in our community. Working together, students prepared and served sausages on bread, managed orders, and engaged with members of the public, all under the guidance of teachers and Education Support staff.

All proceeds from the day were pledged to support homelessness initiatives, reflecting the College’s dedication to giving back and supporting those in need. Beyond fundraising, the event allowed students to introduce Plenty River College to the wider community and share information about the unique learning environment offered at the school.

The College is proud of the enthusiasm, teamwork, and community spirit displayed by all students involved. Their efforts not only nourished others in the community but also enriched their own learning experiences.

We thank Bunnings Mernda for hosting the event and the local community for their generous support. Together, we are making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.
