The Prep students had the best time celebrating Book Week and taking part in their first ever Book Parade.
They were super excited to see their teachers dressed up as sheep from Mem Fox’s Where is the Green Sheep? They got to meet Beach Sheep, Star Sheep, Moon Sheep, Bath Sheep and of course, the elusive Green Sheep.
Leading up to book week, the students were engaged in listening to many of their favourite stories and have recently completed an author study on Eric Carle.
They were immersed in numerous craft and reading activities related to the stories written and illustrated by Eric Carle .
Students were thrilled to go on their first ever excursion to the Werribee Zoo. They were able to see many animals up close and were especially excited to be on a safari bus to watch the animals in their favourite habitats enjoying the sunshine. This excursion has provided valuable learning to help students with their immersion into reading and writing non-fiction texts about animals.

From Week 3 to Week 6, Year 1 students continue to focus on Author studies for reading and writing. We are looking at making predictions of the book before we read and when we are reading the book. We had a great time showing our costumes in the Book Week parade.
In Writing, we are in the process of completing and publishing our narrative story based on the character Hush from Possum Magic. We cant wait to share our narrative with you.
In Maths, we are focusing on different strategies to solve addition problems. We have been practising adding two collections using number lines.
In Humanities, we are looking at how people change as they grow up, the roles and tasks that we can do now are different to when we were babies. We have made anchor charts to show the differences between what we can do now without anyone’s help and what we needed help to do when we were babies.
In Science, we have been learning about different animals’ features and how can they survive in their natural habitat.
We are very excited for our Science excursion to the Melbourne Zoo at the end of Week 7.

The Year 1 Teachers
In Grade 2 this term, we have been looking at Aaron Blabey books as part of our author study in reading and writing. During these lessons we have been learning about rhyming words, similes, hyperboles, and onomatopoeia. We even created our own Pig the Pug storybook.
In numeracy, we have been working on our addition and subtraction, and been learning different strategies to work out these types of equations.
In humanities this term, Grade 2 students have been celebrating differences in cultural traditions and beliefs. We enjoyed looking into the history and traditions of the Olympics. We even held our own Mini Olympics where we had fun competing in sports such as Soccer, Hurdles, Sack Races, Sprints, Egg and Spoon races and Chicken Throwing.
We have been learning about push and push forces in science, we have also been learning about gravity and air resistance. We are all looking forward to our excursion and learning more about forces at ScienceWorks.
