Portable Healthy Meals Y8/9 Fast Food and Celebration food class.

If you happened to walk through the S Block today you may have thought, you had stepped into a bakery. Bakery? No. Food Technology? Yes! Our Yr8/9 Fast Food and Celebration classes were heads down working with pastry to produce healthy homemade versions of pasties and beef sausage rolls. 

The learning intention … “How to adapt a recipe to ensure that the one baked product contained all of the 6 nutrients needed by adolescents.  As a class we discussed Puff and Shortcrust pastry and discussed the difference between Commercial Vs Homemade pastry.   We looked at the fat content of the pastry and then talked about “Everything in moderation” The portable pasties and sausage rolls were then evaluated against the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating to determine their health status.  Pasties and sausage rolls... Pass the sauce please!
