Mathematics: Exploring 3D Space

This week in Mathematics, our Stage 2 and 3 students have been exploring the exciting world of 3D space. They have been learning about the attributes and names of various 3D objects, building a solid foundation in geometry through hands-on activities.

A particularly fun and engaging activity involved students using playdough and toothpicks to create their own 3D objects. What makes this even more special is that the playdough they used was made by the students themselves during an English lesson. As part of learning about procedural texts, the students followed a set of instructions to make the playdough, which they then used in their Maths lesson. This cross-curricular activity not only helped them understand the properties of 3D shapes but also reinforced their understanding of following and writing procedural texts.

We encourage you to discuss these concepts with your child at home. Ask them to identify 3D objects in their environment (cereal boxes, food cans and buildings) and describe their features. This could be a fun way to reinforce what they’ve learned in class and to connect their learning to the world around them.
