Kinder/Year1

K/1 have been so busy learning so many things his term that it’s hard to choose a topic for our newsletter this week! But just to ensure you don’t miss it, we have an assembly coming up in week 10 this term on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

As we have a musical drama on the horizon this term, we are staying on theme with a music-focused assembly.  We shall be sharing with you all the musical elements we have learned this year, including beat, basic rhythms, and informal notation with noodle drumming, as well as our newly learned skill of writing and reading formal music for glockenspiel.

If you have a chance - ask your child if they can draw:

  • A stave (five lines)
  • A treble clef (tricky!)
  • A 4/4 time signature
  • Add a middle C (who has its own swing in its playground under the stave)
  • Finally a D (who is hanging on for d-d-dear life.)

We are learning to write a crotchet/ta and minim/ta-ah note and have already experimented with titi notes and sa rests. This is only after a few weeks of writing formal music.

Your children are becoming increasingly prepared to join our band program.

It is exciting to see them all engaging in music and strengthening so many neural brain pathways at the same time. They are just so clever!

Make sure your calendars have our upcoming assembly added!
