Bunnings Trade Skills for Teens

Our students had the exciting opportunity to attend the "Trade Skills for Teens" workshop at Bunnings Preston. This event was an incredible chance for them to further develop their skills with the expert guidance of Bunnings trade specialists.

The first activity began with the Bunnings team sharing insights about their roles, followed by a comprehensive tour of the trade/timber yard, plumbing, and electrical departments. 

The students were highly engaged and showed great interest throughout the experience.  

The second activity was a highlight as the students, under the expert guidance of a Bunnings trade specialist, built a dog kennel and a Cat Tower Scratcher. The specialist was not only patient and attentive but also the ideal mentor for the task. He emphasized the importance of reading instructions carefully and allowed the students to learn through their mistakes, reinforcing the idea that sometimes failure is a stepping stone to success. His final lesson was a valuable one: a job isn’t complete until the workspace is clean.

It was truly inspiring to see the students work together with enthusiasm and determination, solving problems and using trade tools to create a fantastic final product. In August Bunnings presented the dog kennel to a dog rescue group and the Cat Tower Scratcher to a Cat Rescue group.

Bunnings also treated the students to a quick snack of donuts and juice, which brought smiles all around. As a special gesture, Bunnings also presented each student with a tool belt and some trade tools, for which they were incredibly grateful.
