Principal's Report

Dear St A’s Community,

What a busy fortnight we have had at St Augustine's! The excitement never stops here!

When we create a welcoming and caring environment our students thrive and love being at school!

Last week we celebrated Book Week. This is always a highlight for our school community. We started off last week with the Book Fair and we thank all of our customers that came through and choose an item!

On Thursday, The Book Character Parade in the hall had everyone smiling. We had a range of amazing costumes from the students and staff.  The staff dressed as Alice in Wonderland and it was great to see so many staff getting involved! Thank you to the parents and students for your enthusiasm and creativity with costumes which resulted in a very successful morning,

and seeing the smiles on the children's faces as they shared their costumes and favourite books always fills us with joy.  We had so many creative costumes - SpongeBob, Where's Wally, Wimpy Kid, Willy Wonka, Book worms, Harry Potter just to name a few! We are grateful to our school community who support our students, with organising costumes, joining us at the parade and instilling a love of reading in your children.

The senior students also participated in online incursion with illustrator Freya Blackwood, who  is a children's book illustrator, known for her emotive drawings of children and animals

In amongst our Book Week celebrations, our Grade 3/4 students headed off to the Zoo for an excursion - in line with their Biological Science Inquiry unit.  A great time was had by all, learning about the animals and having an up close experience with some of the creatures!

Then we had some of our 5/6's head out on last Friday to the Basketball Lightning premiership!  Well done to all the students that competed.  Our students did very well with a third place and a first place!  Go St A's!

This week the fun continued with our celebration of St Augustine's Feast day. The students attended Mass with Father and also completed a fun Kahootz quiz about our school!

We also has a whole school incursion called 'Maybe a miracle', finishing off the Book Week celebrations. This performance took the students on a journey through 3 picture books from the book week list 2024. During one of the books we were invited to join in and do a dance that we've been learning in class the last fortnight! The main message we took away was that there are miracles everywhere and if we can think more positively, we can achieve so many things!

We also ran our Father's Day stall!  The Father's Day stall  was a tremendous success, and I would again like to thank our amazing Mrs Jactinta Martin for all of her work with the stall and to the many parents helpers we had on the day. The excitement on the children's faces as they selected the perfect gift for their dad was priceless, especially our last-minute afternoon sale!

Today our Grade 1/2 students went on an excursion to the Melbourne Aquarium and participated in an underwater experience!  From all reports, the students had a great time and enjoyed the amazing sea life!

To finish out the week we held our Fathers Day event this afternoon! It was fantastic to see so many dads at our special Father’s Day celebration! A big thank you for coming!

On that note, I would like to wish all of our school dads and father figures a very Happy Father's Day this Sunday.  Hopefully, you will be thoroughly spoilt by your children this weekend!

Show Grace, Be the joy for others and God Bless.
