PRAYER

Father in heaven,

all creation rightly gives you praise,

for all life and all holiness come from you.

In the plan of your wisdom

she who bore the Christ in her womb

was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven.

May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness

and join in her hymn of endless love and praise.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Today we recognise the Solemnity of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. When we contemplate Mary in heavenly glory, we understand that the earth is not the definitive homeland for us either, and that if we live with our gaze fixed on eternal goods we will one day share in this same glory and the earth will become more beautiful. Consequently, we must not lose our serenity and peace even amid the thousands of daily difficulties (Pope Benedict XVI).

Bullying No Way

This week is the national week of action against bullying. The focus is prevention against bullying with the aim to develop students’ understanding of what they can do to prevent bullying. Purple is the ‘hero’ colour and the theme, Everyone Belongs. Students have engaged in learning skills and strategies, with emphasis on the concepts of community and belonging. Students gathered for a special morning tea this morning, and each were given a cup cake with purple icing, symbolising the hero colour.

Book Week

The theme for book week this year is ‘Reading is Magic’. Students will engage in reading the shortlisted books and associated activities during the week. Our Book Week parade is scheduled for Tuesday 27 August at 9.00am. Students are invited to dress-up as their favourite book character, super hero, or theme on this day. Parents and friends are invited to join us in the hall for the parade.

Father’s Day breakfast

Fathers, grandfathers and special friends are invited to our annual Father’s Day Breakfast on Wednesday 28 August from 7.45am in the Fr Arnold Centre. This is an opportunity for special family time and to share time with others within the community.  Bookings can be made using the trybooking link: https://www.trybooking.com/CULPY

Deputy Conferene

Mrs Elena Salvana is attending the Eastern Region Deputy Conference today and tomorrow. The conference is an opportunity for Elena to engage professionally with leaders from other Catholic schools in the Eastern region, and bring new learnings back to our school. Areas of focus during the conference include: regulation, dis-regulation and co-regulation, and associated impact.

Principal Conference

In September I will be travelling to Spain with other principals from the East Central Zone Principals’ Network. The reason for our travel is spiritual formation. Formative experiences have a long  history in the Tradition of the Catholic Church. Our formation involves walking the Camino de Santiago, or Way of St. James. Our pilgrimage will begin in Madrid and we will walk to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, a journey of approximately 115 km. We leave during the school holidays and return for Week 2 of Term 4.

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS)

Part of our school improvement process involves the annual collection of data through the MACSSIS. All cohorts, staff, students and families, of the school community are invited to participate in the surveys. In the next few weeks families will receive a unique code and login details via email sent from the school office. We encourage all families to participate in the survey as the data is used to determine where improvement is needed across all areas of our school.
