Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

2024

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden with 3/4M

What an end to the year with the spring weather being so up and down. It has helped our garden to grow and flourish, especially with the growth of our new orchard.  The 3/ 4 M students each week have been working on their wheelbarrow driving skills by shovelling and moving mulch from the huge pile to the new orchard and pumpkin patch area.

In the kitchen yesterday we cooked up zucchini pancakes, spinach dip, coleslaw and a batch of yummy savoury muffins with asparagus. They were all so tasty, especially with the dip smeared all over it.  Next week will be the last week of the SAKG program for 2025.  It has been a wonderful year and we have had so much fun in the garden and kitchen.  Thanks to the parents of 3/ 4M who have helped over the past 6 weeks.  We love seeing you each week.

Student Reflections:

Hi my name is Morgan and I’m here to tell you about Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden. The cooking only happens on Tuesday and goes on for seven weeks. The helpers are really kind and good at cooking so they can help you. Cooking is also fun . You never know what you're going to cook. The food always  tastes good.  You know what they say  “ hard work pays off. Goodbye :) By Morgan

This week we made the bread and the salad, the bread was just plain bread and the salad was a butter bean salad. The helpers that were helping today were Nikki Sensei, Tiffany (Hamish’s mum) and Melisa.  From James and Jaxson

Today we made a lot of stuff but my favourite that I am looking forward to is the main meal.  The main meal was the zucchini fritter. I think that I am going to eat everything and I am thinking that this is going to be one of the best weeks. We only have one more week of cooking and luckily for me I am doing it next year too. My dad is cooking with me and he had a helper today nick.  I hope that when my friend Nina said that we are having pizza last week.  She knows that because she is a grade 4 the stephanie alexander program has been so fun and I can not wait for next week.  I made the bread and it was a muffin. One of the things I am disappointed in is that we were the last class to do it but that is not because of the program one class needs to be last.  By Ella

This week I was in an egg plant group making zucchini cheese rolls but we ended up making zucchini cheese-like pancake texture. Our helpers were Melisa and Serena. There were also more helpers like Niki sensei, Tiffany, Greg, Mrs Siegert and Sharu. Tomato group made a savory muffin, Zucchini made a creamy spinach dip and the carrot group made a Coleslaw salad.  Last week I did the garden . We were digging for potatoes and we had to do the mouching.  By Jonathan

Today for Stephanie Alexander kitchen gardening programme we did some weeding and added onto that we got some tanbark and some fresh grass which is also known as mulch and we poured it into the orchid area. Now onto the cooking, today for salad we made capsicum which was really fun.  By Ayden:)
