Year 6 Newsletter

Year 6 Weekly Newsletter: Week 8

Dear Parents and Guardians of Year 6 Students,

Please take a minute to read about all the exciting things going on in the Year 6’s.

Mathematics:

We have been revisiting the cartesian plane and grid references. Play a game of Battleships with your child!

Writing:

We continue drafting and revising our Biographies, written in the style of Good Night Stories. The students are creating self portraits in the Art room that will sit alongside this biography.  We can’t wait to see the end results!

Inquiry: Can I afford to buy that?

Our first Earn & Learn Markets will take place on Friday. Our students are very enthusiastic and engaged in this and the teachers are looking forward to doing a little shopping themselves. Our classroom bankers are getting set up to withdraw and deposit money into student bank accounts. Our tax and rent collectors are ready to go. We wonder how many students will have any spending money left after market 1?

Reading: Lit Circles

We are into our final rotations with most groups now reading to the end of their text and completing individual and group reports. The persistence and progress our students have made is exceptional and we thank those parents that continue to prompt and support their children at home.

High School Q&A session

We had a very successful and informative session with some of our past ENPS students on Tuesday, who are in Year 7 at various secondary schools around Melbourne. They spoke extremely well on the positive aspects of high school, including what to expect on Orientation Day and the first couple of weeks. Our Year 6’s then moved into groups with Year 7’s from their school - having the opportunity to ask specific questions. Homework, detention, getting lost and making friends were all very common questions!

Sexual Health Lessons

On Wednesday all classes had session 1 of 3 sexual health lessons. They covered the topics of our reproductive system - using the correct terminology, and the 2 main ingredients for making a baby. All students have brought home a homework sheet to complete by next Wednesday. PLease ask your child to show you this and complete it together.
