Year 5 Newsletter
Dear Year 5 families and friends,
There are still 4 weeks of school left but we are all getting excited by the prospect of the upcoming break. Weeks 8 and 9 are all about finishing off the academic year, well.
In Inquiry, we will use our discoveries from the decades studied to create, and play, our trivia games. The music playlists have been particularly fun for teachers and students this term. This week, some students are still working through the 2000s.
The students have analysed and identified the features of information reports during literacy sessions. They will use their research from the inquiry unit to write an information report describing the differences over the decades of a student-chosen-theme. Some are working on world events over time; others have chosen movies, technology, fashion and music. It will be good to read their findings.
In each classroom, Literacy Circles are going well. The students are undertaking their roles with greater confidence and autonomy this term, than in Term 2. It is wonderful to hear the discussions between students trying to identify figurative language examples and to see the Discussion Directors capably managing meetings with their peers. Most students are loving the texts that they are working with.
Each day in maths, we are reviewing concepts that have been taught throughout the year. In weeks 8 and 9, angles and data are our focus. The four operations and problem solving skills will continue to be covered through an exploration of measurement, statistics and data.
The end of the year is rushing towards us, but before that arrives we have some exciting happenings. Please check Compass and consent to events, so that everyone at school can participate.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the Christmas Singalong in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, we hope that you are having an excellent week.
