Rowing
Collegerowers contested the 134th staging of the Dimboola Rowing Regatta last weekend. College students and families lined the banks of the Wimmera river to view 212 athletes from 20 clubs competing in 71 events. Dimboola Rowing Regatta was a successful and lively event, with all crews enjoying good conditions and solid rows.
Hamilton College’s first boys quad scored an impressive win in the B-grade coxed quad scull, a real highlight for the team. The seasoned competitors gave the crowds a exciting race taking the win by a foot.
Adding to the excitement, Hamilton College’s eight made a welcome return to the regatta scene after a long break, competing in both the mixed eight and the C-grade male eight events.
For many new rowers, this was their very first regatta, adding to the excitement and sense of accomplishment.
College continued their winning success with the Female Under 17 Single Scull a combination event with the Under 15 Single Scull.
Year 9 student Molly Walker faced fellow student Year 10 student Phoebe Baker and a Under 15 sculler from Wentworth in the first and final event.
Walker took the lead early in lane three, drawing the lead ahead of the first river bend, building on the distance, Molly finished six lengths clear of her competitors to claim the medal.
Congratulations to the many students who raced for their first time, rowing is not easy but it sure is fun, and we hope you had a great day out at Dimboola.
We would also like to thank Mhari, Poppy, Pip, Hannah and Evie for coming along and supporting us, Pip even managed to don the Green and Pink to have a race or two coxing.
As always a big thank you to Gill, Darcy, Ben, Paul and Jane for all your support and help, and a shoutout to Mrs Williams for driving the Dimboola Bus.
This weekend, we head to Ballarat for the inaugural RV Schools Regatta, where more first timers will be hitting the water at Lake Wendouree. We hope for some great weather on and off the water.
