Year 10 Outdoor Environmental Studies - 4 Day Canoeing Journey
On the 12th November, our Year 10 Outdoor Environmental Studies students set off on a spectacular 4-day river-based journey program.
The Glenelg River, known as Bochara to the Gunditmara People, translates to ‘River of Life’. Students stepped outside of their comfort zones as they engaged with new activities and supported each other through the paddling. A big thank you to all students for a stella week. – Georgina Sheens
Students did an amazing job cooking all their own meals on trangiers, setting up and packing up tents, carrying all their own gear on canoes and demonstrating amazing team work and independence.
Students paddled about 20 kms over 2 days and learnt how to work together to steer and paddle efficiently with their canoe buddy, one was the motor and one was on steering.
We were lucky to see some great wildlife along the way including koalas, wallabies, joey’s, emu’s , kangaroos and many different species of birds.
An amazing experience for all students – well done to everyone involved! – Hannah Studd

Headstart - Year 10 Outdoor Environmental Studies
Year 10 Outdoor Environmental studies students were lucky to be involved in a plastic recycling workshop this week. Bringing awareness to the negative impacts of plastic in our local marine environment, students were actively involved in the process of plastic recycling in a hands-on workshop.
During the workshop, students were educated on the short and long-term impacts of plastic pollution while sorting, cleaning and repurposing the plastics into useful items.
Students were taught awareness of this global issue and the active part they can play in making a positive impact to the growing issue of plastic pollution at both a local and global scale.
Watch this space for an upcoming project and school initiative!
Big thanks to SOEL and our amazing presenters Catia and Bridget!
