Positive Behaviours for Learning

At SFS, our PBL (Positive behaviours for learning) school wide expectations are:

Respect,

Responsibility and

Kindness

This week the teachers and students focused on the value of KINDNESS: Use appropriate language. The teachers talked to the students about how our words can be very powerful and can deeply impact how people think and feel. We discussed that we do not tolerate any racist comments at school where we put someone down based on their skin colour or cultural practices.

The children practiced some appropriate language to use with others outside to demonstrate kindness.

Here are some of our lucky raffle winners from last week who have been demonstrating our schoolwide expected behaviours.

World Kindness Day

This Wednesday 13th November was world Kindness day.If we all tried to spread a little kindness the world would be a better place. You and your family might like to try to use some of the ideas from this November kinndness calendar from the Random Acts of Kindness foundation.

Student Representative Council Term 4

The SRC meet me each Monday during Action team time in the afternoon. The children shared some of their ideas for school improvement from their classmates.

This week the children worked on Child safety standard 7: Children and their families know how to make a complaint and what happens when a complaint is made. The staff know how to respond properly to complaints. We worked through a document called “Helping children and young people to Speak up and make a complaint. The children learnt that a complaint is when we speak up when we are unhappy about the school’s service, conduct of the staff or another child or young person or the way a prior concenr was handled.

We learnt about some tips to help young people when they are making a complaint. The SRC are going to be working on spreading kindness through SFS for the rest of term 4 and doing random acts of kindness for others. They will then pass on a “tag you’re it” kindness card in the hope that that student will do something kind for someone else.

If you have any concerns about the mental health or wellbeing of your child, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am available to speak to at school, via the phone or email on rlenko@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au
