Learning and Teaching

Remembrance Day

On Remembrance Day, our school gathered for a meaningful liturgy to honour those who have served in wars and conflict, and to remember those still impacted by these struggles. During the ceremony, we reflected on the importance of peace and the sacrifices made for our freedom.

In preparation for the liturgy, our junior and senior classes came together for a special activity. Each student traced their hand on paper and wrote a prayer of hope and peace for those experiencing hardship due to war and conflict. The hands were then joined together to create a wreath, decorated with poppies as a symbol of remembrance.

Representatives from each learning space brought the wreaths to the front during the liturgy. This collaborative effort was a powerful reminder of the unity and compassion we share as a school community in honouring those affected by conflict. This special activity and liturgy not only marked a moment of remembrance, but also allowed our students to actively engage in the spirit of compassion, reflection, and peace. Through their prayers and actions, they demonstrated the importance of standing together in solidarity, hoping for a more peaceful and just world for all.

LEARNING SPACE 3 JUNIORS

The Juniors were excited after seeing all the art work from the Art show displayed. They explored the hall, looking at the different types of Art before returning to Learning Space 3 to complete an Art Analysis. They described what they saw and what they liked about that piece.

BIKE EDUCATION - Week 6 - Session 1

The fifth graders are becoming acquainted.

1. They demonstrated exceptional listening skills to instructions while using their bicycles.

2.  The safety considerations associated with cycling include the management of shoelaces, as well as maintaining an appropriate distance from the bicycles ahead and behind during the ride.

3. When navigating a tight corner, what is your strategy, and at what speed do you operate your bicycle?

I have gained a clearer understanding of which student exhibit confidence in riding their bikes and which ones need additional support and guidance.

It is essential to communicate to the students the significance of safety and enjoyment during their biking experience. Furthermore, engaging in regular activities is crucial, as it contributes to the enhancement of fitness, health, and overall well-being.

Grade 5 students will continue their Bike Education Program on Friday next week. They will remain on school grounds completing cycling skills and simulations.

Students will need to bring their bikes and helmets to school on Friday November 22nd.

We remind students that if they are riding to school they will need to dismount their bikes and walk on school grounds. If parents are dropping off bicycles at school, they can remain in the Bike Shed for the duration of the program.

If it is raining heavily in the morning students do not need to bring their bikes to school.

Please ensure your child is wearing their bathers under their sports uniform and brings a bag with their towel, undergarments and thongs for both days they are attending swimming. It would be great if all students come prepared for their swimming lesson so that our office staff don’t need to take up valuable time ringing parents to bring students’ swimming gear.

Thank you to all the SFS staff who help the program run smoothly. A big thanks also to the parents who assist the Juniors in the change rooms. Just a reminder that if you have offered to assist in the change rooms, no siblings are to be brought on the day as they cannot enter the change rooms. Also if you have offered to assist, we would greatly appreciate your attendance otherwise it makes things difficult for the staff.

Parents please note you are welcome to attend Casey Race to view your child’s lesson but photographs and videos are not allowed and only parents who have been contacted by me, are able to assist in the junior change rooms.

A reminder to parents that swimming is an important part of the PE curriculum and all students are expected to attend. It’s imperative that students know how to keep themselves safe around water. Students not attending swimming because of a medical reason will remain at school in another Learning Space.

Any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
