Love on the Train Line by Zeynep

Please enjoy this wonderful historical narrative story by Zeynep in Year 5 (and congratulations to Zeynep who was awarded a Principal's Award for her writing this week in assembly):

Love On The Train Line

In the hot scorching summer there were 8 siblings playing on the train track. The wooden rail line went through the middle of the quaint, dusty town. Joyful laughter filled the dry air. One of them was named Rose and she was the most mature one. Rose always cleaned the dishes, did the washing and swept the floor. Rose’s Mum thought Rose was very responsible and often asked her to cook dinner for her brothers and sisters and to keep an eye on them.

Calmly, her younger sister was playing with her toys.Rough and energetically her older brothers were playing AFL and when Rose was just sitting on the floor drawing, she looked up to see her older brothers were arguing.

“STOP IT!!!!!!” Rose said as loud as she could.

“You can’t tell us what to do because you’re a girl,” her older brother said.

“Oh, fine.” Rose said, with an annoyed tone in her voice.

“Whatever,” said Jason as he rolled his eyes, but he realized that the tea and sugar train was coming today.

“The tea and sugar train is coming,” Jason said excitedly.

“We know," Rose's voice sounded annoyed and she gave him the side eye.

“What was that for?” Jason said as he grabbed the wheelbarrow to wait for the tea and sugar train to come.

“Because you’re being very annoying,” she said

“Fine, I'll just stop talking then,” he sighed.

Beneath the hot sun, the rusty, rickety tea and sugar train came out of nowhere. It was filled with so much sweet sugar, like honey and bitter tea. But Jason shoved the wheelbarrow at Rose.

“Here you go, loser.”

“Thank you,” she said with an eye roll.

Rose walked to the train and rustled her hand in her pocket to find some change so she could buy the tea and sugar. As she walked to the train she saw one of her younger siblings stealing some money from someone's pocket. Rose was shocked. Then she went next to Lilly and got the money back from her hand and gave the money back to the person, apologising.

Rose told off her sister. “Go back home and stay in your room. I'll have to tell mum about this.” Then she went back to the tea and sugar train. Then she saw her best friend Jasper.

“ Hi Jasper,” she said very happily.

“ Hi,” Jasper answered.

“What are you doing here?” Jasper asked.“Oh I am just here for tea and sugar,”  Rose responded.

“Ok,” Jasper said.

“Why are you here Jasper?” She asked.

“Because I live near here and also I need to get some tea,” he said as he looked for his money.

Then he realized that he forgot his money.

“I forgot my money.” He had panic in his voice.

“Don’t worry I will give you some money,” Rose said in a polite tone.

“Thank you,” Jasper said in a thankful tone.

“ No problem “ Rose said as she gave the money and then she had only one pound left so that she could only buy one bag of sugar and tea. So she went to buy tea and sugar. Rose put the tea and sugar quickly in the wheelbarrow .

“ Bye Jasper, see you at Christmas next week!” Rose said quickly, her cheeks flushed and she scurried away towards her old wooden house with the rusty metal roof.

“ Bye,” Jasper said with a smile on his face. He felt butterflies within, as Rose wandered away. He hoped to see her at Christmas.

One week later

It was a hot scorching Christmas morning when Rose woke up. She was so excited to see Jasper at the Christmas train, so she got ready as quickly as she could. She ran the whole way to the train station and scanned the crowd for Jasper's face. She saw him standing underneath one of the doors to the station in his best clothes. She made her way through the crowd to him.

“Merry Christmas Jasper!” Rose said beaming.

“Hi Rose, Merry Christmas, I've been looking forward to seeing you here”.

Rose tilted her head and realised there was a small piece of mistletoe hung above the doorway where they were both standing.

“Jasper, look up!” Rose commented. “ Can I hug you but not kiss you,” Rose said.

Jasper blushed, “Sure Rose, he smirked.” I thought you’d never ask”.

As they hug they watch the sun set.
