PDHPE

This term Year 9 PDHPE have been learning about relationships, consent and sexual health during their theory lessons. In practical lessons they have been participating in a range of invasion and modified games.

As the weather heats up in practical, can we please suggest that students have either a hat or sunscreen on. Some sunscreen will be provided. Sun safety at all times!

Year 10 PDHPE are about to commence a new unit called “Fit for Life” which incorporates both practical and theory lessons. Students will learn about the benefits of physical activity, goal setting and analysing sports performances. They are also looking at creating their own training program, which they will be able to implement in the school gym. They have also just completed their Semester 2 examination, and we look forward to seeing their results once they are finalised.

Year 10 recently attended the“B Street Smart” excursion at Qudos Bank Arena. This excursion is run by the Trauma Service at Westmead Hospital and aims to promote safe driver, rider and passenger behaviour. It is Australia’s largest educational event on road safety and our students were excellent representatives of the school and learnt a lot from this valuable experience.

Year 9 PASS are reminded that their theory assessment will take place in class on Wednesday week 10. Please refer to student hand book if you are unable to complete this task on the allocated day. Next term Year 9 PASS will be learning about sports for specific groups. This includes sports for people with disabilities and sports significant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

Year 10 PASS are currently working on their event management assessment task. They are organising a one day sports event for 150 students in a sport of their choosing. They must look at pre-event, during event and post-event considerations. This pairs nicely with their practical lessons where they are participating in a range of round robin sports.

Year 7 will begin term 4 with water safety. This will look at beach, pool and river safety. Staff are in the process of organising an excursion. Please keep an eye out for an email from schoolbytes regarding this.

Year 11 HMS have spent the year working on the new syllabus. With a lot of hard work from the students and staff in preparing and engaging in the content, the year has been a success. Everyone in the PDHPE faculty wish year 11 all the best with all their exams!

Finally, Year 12, What a journey you have taken to reach the final stages of your school adventure. It has been a pleasure to watch you grow and develop in a range of contexts. Best of luck in all future endeavours and you will always been remembered as the last group to go through on the old syllabus.

Mr Garland and Mrs Whitbread will be running a study session in the second week of the holidays, we hope to see as many of you there as possible.
