From the Deputy Principals

Dear School Community,
It has long been understood the distracting (and sometimes damaging) impacts of technology on young people, particularly social media. Since the NSW Government’s phone ban in schools, there is an increased emphasis on learning and engagement, without the impulse to reach into their pockets for a phone.
At Camden High, we are working with students to maximise their self-sufficiency and resilience, both in and out of the classroom. This includes understanding the impact of social media and screentime considerations on their concentration, mental health and overall wellbeing. This comes at a time that the Australian Government has announced an age-delay on social media apps, coming into effect in December. For many students (as the delay affects all students under the age of 16), this means that access to social media will be completely removed. It’s essential that families are prepared for this change, and that we work together to guide these young people into habits that are sustainable and resilient.
We highly commend the article below to you – CTRL-SHIFT (formerly ‘Safe on Social’) is an organisation that works with governments, schools and families to provide support on Cyber Safety for young people. This resource aims to engage parents as leaders in the change that is coming.
