Maffra SC vs Sale College – Regional Qualifier

Maffra Secondary College travelled to Sale GRSC to take on Sale College in wet conditions. It proved to be a thriller, with scores locked at 3–3 at the final siren before Maffra claimed victory in a tense shootout.

From the opening whistle, Maffra’s attack was on. Within the first three minutes, Braidyn Barclay Lear opened the scoring, before Connor Johnston took on the Sale defence with determination, slotting in the next two goals. In support, Miller Morton, Isaac McInnes and Aiden Murphy were instrumental in moving the ball downfield and keeping the pressure on.

At the other end, Maffra’s defence stood tall. Janah Thomas, Riley Boyle, Tyson Ryswyk, Isabella McInnes, Ebony Boyle and Harry Allison formed a strong barrier that kept Sale scoreless in the first half. In goals, Jesse Lenehan was outstanding, ensuring nothing crossed into the six-yard box. From the sideline, Lincoln Patmore, Cade Richards and Troy Collins gave constant encouragement and support.

After the break, Sale College hit back strongly, scoring three quick goals to level the match. Maffra struggled to convert opportunities but dug deep defensively, holding Sale scoreless for the final six minutes to force the shootout.

In the decider, Connor Johnston stepped up as goalie, showing great composure to restrict Sale to just one goal from four attempts. For Maffra, Isaac McInnes and Jana Thomas coolly slotted their shots, securing a 2–1 shootout win.

Congratulations to the team on progressing through to the Regional Finals on October 21st.
