School Council News

School Council Wrap
School Council met on the 18th of August after what seemed like a long time since the previous meeting in June.
We welcomed Caitlin Morris, our new year 10 student representative. There are two student representatives on school council, one from year 10 and one from year 11 (Declan Collins).
The school review took place over three days leading up to school council. This occurs once every four years and culminates in the formulation of a new strategic plan for the next four years, 2026-29. I was privileged to be on the review panel. A highlight was observing several classes. It was good to see the teachers at work. It really confirmed for me that we have a great group of teachers at Maffra. The students were pretty impressive too!
Much has been achieved over the last four years and the reviewers were often complimentary and genuinely impressed which was great.
The new plan, which isn’t quite finalised yet, will build on the last four years and result in an even better educational experience for all students. The new strategic plan will be available for viewing later in the year.
We also looked at this year’s NAPLAN results at school council. The main thing of note was that the growth in student outcomes of students from year 7 to 9 in both English and Maths was strong. This is the best measure of the value our teachers are adding to our students’ results. There is still more to do and the new strategic plan should help make these results even better.
