Senior Years

What an action-packed and rewarding term it has been for our senior students in Years 10, 11, and 12! From excursions and outdoor education adventures, to academic enrichment and sporting competitions, our students have embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm and commitment.

VCE Excursions and Learning Beyond the Classroom Our VCE Physics students were fortunate to visit the Australian Synchrotron, where cutting-edge science came to life before their eyes. Outdoor Education students across Years 10, 11 and 12 also had incredible field experiences this term. Examining the Cape Eco-Village in Cape Paterson, exploring the wetlands at Heart Morass, or immersing themselves in the cultural and natural wonder of the Den of Nargun. Year 10s also took on a challenge, during the bike ride for their Outdoor Education Studies, building resilience and teamwork along the way.

Building Awareness and Reflection Our Year 12s attended the P.A.R.T.Y. Program (Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth), a powerful and thought-provoking experience designed to raise awareness about the consequences of risk-taking behaviour. Students came away with a deeper understanding of the importance of making safe and responsible choices as young adults.

VCE Theatre, VCE Art and Year 10 Drama experiences The Arts have been thriving, with VCE Theatre Studies and Year 10 Drama students attending a performance of 1984 at The Wedge. This modern adaptation provided both inspiration and valuable insight into performance and production elements that students will draw upon in their own work. The VCE Art students explored creativity at both the National Gallery of Victoria our local Gippsland Art Gallery, drawing inspiration from the world-class impressionist exhibition and the landscape paintings of Turner.

Sports and Competitions Senior students proudly represented our school at the Wellington Senior Basketball Competition. Their effort, sportsmanship, and teamwork on the court were commendable and reflected the strong culture of participation we value.

Academic Excellence In the classroom, VCE English has been a real highlight this term. Students have engaged in English Masterclasses run by VCE Chief Assessor Helen Billett, gaining insider knowledge and strategies to excel in their studies. Additionally, our own VCE English teachers hosted a packed-out lunchtime revision session, further evidence of the dedication and drive of our students to achieve their very best. Students have also been engaging in small group tutoring for English to further their skills.

Looking Ahead – Year 12 Focus The final stretch of Year 12 is upon us, and preparation is in full swing. Practice exams are scheduled for Week 9, giving students a valuable opportunity to refine exam strategies under timed conditions. Through September and October, our students will also be able to access the Unit 3/4 Access Education online revision lectures. These sessions, supported by a comprehensive printed resources for each subject, will be an excellent tool to consolidate learning before final exams.

And of course, a significant milestone is fast approaching, the last day for Year 12 students will beThursday, 23rd October. This will be a moment of celebration, reflection, and looking ahead to life beyond school.

Final Words As we move into the latter part of the year, I am incredibly proud of how our senior students are balancing their studies with extracurricular opportunities. Their willingness to step outside their comfort zones, whether academically, socially, or physically, is shaping them into confident and resilient young people.

Well done, Years 10, 11, and 12, you have made the most of this term, and we look forward to even more successes ahead.
