Golden Satay Success

Maffra Triumphs at the 4th Annual Golden Satay Indonesian Challenge
On Wednesday 3rd September, members of our Year 7 and 8 cohort travelled to Sale College to take part in the 4th Annual Golden Satay Indonesian Challenge — a colourful, high-energy day celebrating language, culture and teamwork. The morning began with an oral speaking introductory task, where students impressed judges with confident Indonesian speaking and clear pronunciation, setting a strong tone for the competitions that followed.
Teams then faced a series of fun lomba-lomba (games) that tested agility, coordination and plenty of school spirit: the marble-and-spoon race, balloon relay and the always-hilarious cracker-eating contest. Laughter and encouraging shouts rang out across the hall as students supported each other and competed with great sportsmanship. The day concluded with a tense final trivia round in Indonesian that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.
A delicious luncheon prepared by student caterers rounded out the event — mie goreng, nasi kuning, sate ayam and rendang were served and enjoyed by all, giving everyone a ‘enak’ taste of Indonesian cuisine.
After a close and thrilling competition, Maffra won the Golden Satay Trophy by just half a point, reclaiming the title for 2025. What a fantastic result — testament not only to strong language skills but to teamwork, encouragement and resilience.
Terima kasih banyak to every student who took part and to the Sale College hosts for their warm welcome and excellent catering. You have demonstrated outstanding Indonesian knowledge, confident speaking, and genuine support for your teammates. We are so proud of your efforts — congratulations on winning back the trophy!
