Supporting Our Students

Wellbeing
This term, our school proudly recognised Wear it Purple Day and R U OK? Day, two important events that promote inclusion, respect, and mental health awareness. Students and staff came together to show their support, reminding one another of the power of kindness and connection. We also ran programs with external agencies, including Love Bites with Year 10, where members of SECC, The Deli, Salvation Army/Oasis, Bayside Council and Headspace were linked in with our school. We continue to provide support with our School Psychologists and Student Support Officer (SSO). Our connection with our community is an important component of the Wellbeing program that we run at our school.
As we move towards the holiday period, we encourage everyone to continue looking after their wellbeing. Staying safe means keeping balanced routines, reaching out for help when needed, and supporting friends who may be doing it tough. Remember, small conversations can make a big difference. Stay safe, stay connected, and enjoy the break.
Ms. McInnes
Student Representative Council
This term has been a busy and rewarding one for our Student Representative Council (SRC), marked by strong advocacy, leadership, and community involvement.
A major highlight was the determined effort by our Year 10 and 11 SRC members to advocate for improved air conditioning across the school. Their professional presentations at the P&C meetings in Weeks 3 and 8 secured full support from the P&C. As a result, a formal letter, co-signed by the P&C, will be sent to local members, the Hon. Ron Hoenig MP and the Hon. Matt Thistlethwaite MP, requesting their support for this important upgrade. This is a powerful example of student voice driving real change.
Our SRC has also played a key role in promoting a positive and inclusive school culture. In Week 6, they spoke at year meetings to reinforce shared expectations around the care of school facilities. In Week 8, the SRC supported Ms. McInnes in delivering R U OK? Day activities, including the Wellness Mural, table tennis stations, and a mindfulness space in the library.
Beyond the classroom, our SRC proudly represented JJCMHS at the Bayside Spring Fair in Week 7. Assisting Deputy Principal Ms. De Mello, our student volunteers ran the school stall from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., showcasing our school with maturity, enthusiasm, and pride.
As the current SRC's year of service comes to an end, I extend my sincere thanks to all members for their dedication, leadership, and hard work. Your impact has been truly felt across our school.
Looking ahead, elections for the 2026 School Leadership Team and SRC will take place early in Term 4. We look forward to welcoming a new cohort of student leaders ready to continue this important work.

Learning Hub
We are excited to announce that the Learning Hub and Learning Support teams are up and running with a fresh focus for the future. This year, we’re expanding our services with new staff and a renewed commitment to supporting student success across the school.
Please join us in welcoming Anna Whelan, who will be leading small group literacy and maths sessions, and the fantastic Rob, who will be focusing on maths school-wide. Their expertise will be instrumental in providing targeted support to enhance student engagement and strengthen foundational learning skills.
The Learning Hub has already been helping students who require additional assistance to fully engage with their classwork. Our aim is to provide personalized support to help students excel, and we look forward to expanding these services in the upcoming term.
For students who find the classroom setting challenging, the Learning Hub offers a space for one-on-one support to ensure they can complete their work and succeed. We also encourage students to speak with their teachers if they feel they would benefit from extra help in the Learning Hub.
We’re excited about the upcoming term and are eager to reconnect with all of our amazing students. Together, we’ll continue to foster a supportive environment where every learner can thrive.

Vaccinations
As Term 3 comes to a close, the SESLHD Vaccination Team will be onsite to deliver the NSW School Vaccination Program. This service is available to all Year 7 students, who will receive their HPV and Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis (dTpa) vaccinations. Students who missed previous vaccinations will also have the opportunity to catch up.
In Week 1 of Term 4, we will welcome Student Eyecare, who will be onsite offering free eye tests for students. If you would like your child to participate, please complete the online permission form. More details are available in the flyer provided.

Book Week 2025: A Fantastic Celebration of Reading!
Book Week 2025 was a huge success! It was wonderful to see so many students getting into the spirit by dressing up as their favourite book characters. Thanks to your generosity, we also raised valuable funds for Reading Out of Poverty, helping to share the joy of reading with those who need it most. We’re already looking forward to doing it all again next year!
A Few Reminders:
The Premiers’ Reading Challenge is wrapping up soon - don’t forget to update your reading logs before the deadline!
Come and check out the new book displays in the library - we've added lots of exciting new titles for all ages and interests.
Happy reading!

Parents & Citizens
Term 3 has seen the P&C support the school via attendance and funding the stall at the Bayside Spring Fair. It was a fantastic day, showcasing the great things happening at the school alongside staff, SRC and talented JJ students performing on stage.
We have also had SRC members attend two of our meetings this term to discuss infrastructure. P&C will support the SRC via a letter to assist their campaign to have air conditioning installed. We have contacted State and Federal MPs Ron Hoenig and Matt Thistlethwaite to seek their support, also.
In term 4, we will again be running our raffle at the end-of-year Big Night Out. We are always on the lookout for raffle prizes and if any families work for local businesses that would like to support the school by donating a prize, we would be very grateful! Please get in touch via jjcahillpandc@gmail.com.
The P&C (Parents and Carers Association) is a dedicated group of volunteers who work together to support the school and contribute to various projects throughout the year. By getting involved, parents and carers play a key role in enhancing the school community and helping with initiatives that benefit both students and staff. The P&C meets on Wednesdays during Week 3 and Week 8 of each term, providing an opportunity to collaborate on upcoming projects and share ideas. If you're interested in staying informed and getting involved, please email jjcahillpandc@gmail.com to sign up for regular updates and email communication from the P&C. Your support and participation are always welcome!
