Year 7

As we welcome spring, our Year 7 students have now completed their third term of high school, bringing them one step closer to finishing their first year at JJCMHS. This term has been full of exciting and sometimes challenging learning experiences across a wide range of subjects.

Beyond the classroom, Year 7 have also been actively involved in several whole-school events and activities. In Week 5, we celebrated Book Week, and a special shout-out goes to Crystal, who won Best Costume for her fantastic portrayal of The Lorax, Well done, Crystal!

On Tuesday 2 September, JJCMHS marked Wear It Purple Day, a celebration of diversity and inclusion. Year 7 students enthusiastically participated in activities such as face painting, nail art, and music, joining peers from across the school in promoting acceptance and unity.

During our Year Meeting on Friday 12 September, students took part in an R U OK? Day presentation. They explored the importance of mental health and learned how to check in on their friends and peers, reinforcing the message that a simple conversation can make a big difference.

Also in Week 5, Year 7 attended an Anti-Bullying Workshop. Across two periods, they explored what bullying is, its impacts, and the vital roles of bystanders and upstanders. Students participated in a variety of engaging activities, including role-play scenarios and key terminology tasks, helping them build empathy and understanding.

As we head into the holidays, Term 4 is just around the corner and it promises a range of exciting end-of-year activities. Wishing you all a relaxing and refreshing break. Enjoy the warmer weather and the longer days, and I look forward to seeing everyone back for your final term of Year 7!

Year 8

As the new school year approaches, our Year 8 students have been busy selecting their elective subjects for next year. They have shown great enthusiasm in choosing courses that align with their interests and future goals, ranging from creative arts and technology to sports and languages. This process has given students the chance to explore their passions and tailor their learning experience to make the most of the year ahead. We’re also excited to introduce new subjects, including Ex-Studies, providing even more opportunities for students to pursue their interests and challenge themselves.

Recently, our RAISE mentoring students enjoyed a fantastic excursion to the airport. This hands-on experience offered a behind-the-scenes look at airport operations, including flight management and the advanced technology that keeps everything running smoothly. The excursion was both educational and inspiring, sparking interest in careers related to aviation, logistics, and travel.

In addition, some of our students participated in an innovative AI workshop, where they were introduced to the basics of artificial intelligence. This engaging session encouraged creative thinking and problem-solving skills, giving students valuable insights into how AI is shaping our future and how they can play a part in this exciting field.

It’s been a dynamic term full of learning and adventure for Year 8, and we look forward to what’s next!

Year 9

It has been a busy and positive term for Year 9, and I would like to warmly welcome the new students who have joined our year group this term. We are delighted to have you with us and look forward to the unique contributions you will bring to our school community.

A special thank you goes to our student leaders, Riddhiman, Tahsin, Tylar, Hayden, Jesse, and Matai, who have taken on important roles leading our year meetings. Your willingness to step up, demonstrate responsibility, and model leadership is truly appreciated. Opportunities like these help students grow in confidence, develop teamwork skills, and inspire others to get involved.

I would also like to remind all Year 9 students of the importance of consistent attendance and punctuality. Being present and on time each day not only supports your learning but also shows respect for your teachers and peers. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to catch up on any missed work to stay on track.

I am proud of the many positive developments in Year 9 this term and look forward to seeing our students continue to build on their achievements in the term ahead.

Year 10

As Term 3 comes to a close, I want to acknowledge the significant progress our Year 10 cohort has made during this pivotal stage of their schooling. This term has focused on both academic consolidation and personal development, as students prepare for the important transition into their senior years.

To support their growth as informed young adults, students participated in several valuable programs. On Friday, 1 August, we hosted a Police Workshop designed to equip students with essential knowledge for navigating society safely and responsibly. The practical session was well received and engaging for all involved.

Later in the term, on Friday, 15 August, Year 10 students took part in the Love Bites program, an important full-day workshop that focuses on building respectful relationships and empowering students with skills to foster positive, healthy connections. The maturity and engagement demonstrated by our students during this session was truly commendable.

Academically, the primary focus this term has been finalising subject selections for Stage 6. This important step shapes students’ future career and tertiary pathways. I encourage all students to use the upcoming holidays to reflect on their choices and prepare for the demands of the final term. It is crucial to finish the year with diligence, particularly as students complete their final Stage 5 assessments.

I extend my best wishes to all Year 10 students and their families for a restful and rejuvenating holiday. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for a successful final term of junior high school.

Year 11

Year 11 students have now completed their second-to-last year of schooling, a key milestone in their educational journey. Throughout the year, they have shown growing maturity in their approach to learning and coursework. Their Preliminary Examinations took place during Weeks 9 and 10 this term, and we wish all students the very best as they await their results.

Beyond the classroom, our Year 11 cohort has been actively involved in a wide range of important activities, taking on leadership roles at both school-based and external events. It has been inspiring to see them rise to the occasion and support so many initiatives this term. Next term, we look forward to formally welcoming some of these students into the School Leadership Team at a special assembly.

As part of the Life Ready program, students also attended BStreetSmart, where they participated in impactful road safety seminars and presentations, a crucial reminder of the responsibilities that come with growing independence.

As they enter Year 12, maintaining organisation, consistent study habits, and strong routines will be essential. Congratulations to the HSC Class of 2026 on reaching this significant milestone. We look forward to supporting you throughout your final year!
