Boarding Bulletin

Mrs Kathryn Searle - Head of Boarding

Thank you!

Term 3 is always the busiest term, and this term saw us attending many activities, sport, sport and more sport, assessments, and block exams, and of course winning an Excellence Award at the annual Australian Education Awards in the Boarding School of the Year category!  Well done to all students for their dedication to their studies and thank you to our staff for their support and commitment to our boarders.

Events and Celebrations

Boarders' Achievements

Last Thursday, I accompanied Year 11 boarder, Emily Miller, to an official ceremony where she was awarded first place in Queensland in the 2025 Queensland Economics Teachers’ Association (QETA) University of Queensland (UQ) Economics Competition for Year 11.

Congratulations also to Year 11 boarders Alexa Wu who received third place, and Eunis Kam for receiving a distinction.

Emily then travelled to Sydney to compete in the State Australian Gymnastics Championships returning home triumphant with the State Champion Team pennant.

Year 11 boarder, Claire Kong, this week received a High Distinction from the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) Queensland recent Titration Competition.

A Place of Belonging

We ended the term with a wonderful celebration on Tuesday evening of our PNG boarders, past and present, and their families, who shared their culture, celebration of 50 years of Independence, and the connection between Clayfield College and Old Collegian Hilda Minado (CCOCA 1999) who teaches, with her husband Elijah Maidala, on Kitava Island, a remote community located in the Solomon Sea 469 kilometres from Port Moresby.

The night included PNG inspired traditional food prepared by Chartwells, our caterers, and the presentation of a handmade carved timber Clayfield College Crest, made by Hilda’s husband Elijah, presented by Old Collegians Lyn Swann and Rhonda Lynch.

Thank you to our PNG families, the Senior Leadership Team, Old Collegians, and past Head of Boarding Pam Hodgetts and her husband David, who was Hilda’s Head of Boarding when she was a boarder at Clayfield College, for attending this special event, which now will be an annual celebration.

It was also a pleasure to attend the 20th Anniversary Yalari Gala Dinner last Friday evening. We are very proud to be in partnership with Yalari for past 7 years and watch the growth of our First Nation students through their program.
