YEAR 7
Starting Well

Head of Year 7
As the end of term draws near, we continue to support the fundraising for Project Compassion. I would like to recognise 7 Hutchinson 1, who have organised an Easter Raffle.
Students have generously donated Easter Eggs and other items and, with the support of their Year 11 mentors, are selling tickets daily. This is just one of many student-led initiatives across the College supporting Project Compassion.
We ask you to encourage your child to bring some small change to school and support this worthy cause.
In Week 9, the College will recognise Harmony Week, a national celebration of cultural diversity, inclusiveness and respect. Students are encouraged to wear free dress in orange on Tuesday 24 March to celebrate.
Please note that students must be either in complete College uniform (uniform of the day), or in complete free dress - no mixing and matching.
Students are also encouraged to participate in the many activities organised by the College, and our students leaders, to promote awareness and respect (information available on student notices and posters around the College).
This term in Year 7 History, students have been exploring the deep history of Australia and the rich cultures of First Nations peoples. They have investigated the significance of Lake Mungo and the discovery of Mungo Man and Mungo Woman, learning how these important archaeological findings provide evidence of human life in Australia over 40,000 years ago. They have also examined technologies developed by First Nations Australians, such as the boomerang and the woomera, and explored how these tools supported hunting and survival. In addition, students have engaged with Dreaming stories, considering how these stories help explain connections to land, culture, and belief systems.
In Term 2, students will begin their new unit on Ancient Egypt, one of the world’s most fascinating ancient civilizations. Students will investigate Egyptian society, beliefs, daily life, and the significance of monuments such as pyramids and temples. As part of this unit, students will create a Field Journal Portfolio, where they will document their investigations, analyse historical sources, and record their findings about life in Ancient Egypt. This portfolio will allow students to think and work like historians, using evidence to build their understanding of the ancient world.
For any concerns or queries, please get in touch with our Head of Humanities, Jenna Murray jmurray3@cns.catholic.edu.au .

At the College, students are required to adhere to the uniform and personal grooming guide. We want to support families, students, and teachers in understanding specific requirements, particularly for sports shoes. We know students are currently wearing shoes in the 'not suitable' section of the graphic below.
To provide clarity, we have listed the main shoes worn by students with their sports uniforms that require fixing and shoes must meet expectations for the start of Term 2. This provides you and your family time to make changes to comply with the uniform guideline outlined in the College Diary under Uniforms: Sport shoes - low cut, supportive, lace-up, all-purpose shoes for running with a suitable grip. Colour scheme should be discreet. Skate shoes and other flat-soled shoes are not acceptable.
The shoes shown in the graphic below are examples we frequently see; they are not the ONLY shoes not permitted. If you are unsure of the correct shoes, please send a picture or ask your child to speak with the Head of Year for clarification. Uniform infringement consequences will come into play at the commencement of Term 2. We appreciate your support in making it very clear what we expect regarding appropriate footwear at the College.

Please note that all key dates are listed in the College Calendar. This can be accessed via the MyCE Parent App and synced with your personal calendar.
