April school holiday events for secondary students – some with limited places!
REMINDER: Girl Power in Engineering and IT program – applications close 12 April
For girls from Australia with an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Year 9 female students are invited to learn about the exciting possibilities of Engineering and IT through the Girl Power program, including a three-night camp at the University of Melbourne, work experience in Year 10 and mentoring opportunities in Years 11 and 12. Please note that the program is open only to students in Year 9 in 2026. To participate in the subsequent stages of the program, students must have first participated in the Girl Power in Engineering and IT camp whilst in Year 9. Tour and Experience: Biomedical Science at Monash – Wednesday 8 April and Friday 10 April
Designed for Year 10-12 students with an interest in Biomedical Science, this immersive experience offers a first-hand look at what studying this exciting field is really like. You’ll explore our state-of-the-art teaching facilities and experience the learning environment at Monash University’s Clayton campus. A key highlight of the experience is a hands-on Cardiovascular laboratory session run alongside current Biomedical students, giving you the opportunity to hear about their experiences in the course. PrimeSCI! Synchrotron workshops – Monday 13 April to Tuesday 14 April
PrimeSCI!’s hands-on Synchrotron workshops at the Australian Synchrotron this April are designed for year 10–12 students. Students will explore real-world physics and chemistry through practical lab activities, including particle accelerators, molecular interactions, spectroscopy and chromatography, alongside a guided tour of one of Australia’s most advanced research facilities.

Meet an Enviro Scientist Panel at Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary – Wednesday 15 April, 5:45pm to 7:30pm
Secondary school students from years 7-12 will hear from La Trobe University environmental scientists and industry professionals who will share their expertise, research and pathway to their STEM career. After an interactive Q&A panel discussion, participants will have the option to network with the panelists to build valuable connections with both student researchers and established academics.
Panelists for this event will be:

- Tash Perez: Restoration ecologist

Careers in Sports Medicine evening is running again at Performe on Monday 18 May at 5:15pm
It’s designed to give students a clear and practical insight into working in sport, hearing from clinicians and practitioners across physio, dietetics, sports psychology, surgery and strength & conditioning. Drawing on experience working in elite sport, the aim is to give a realistic picture of what these roles actually look like and the different pathways into them.
Also included this year is an opportunity for students to speak with university representatives and course providers beforehand, to better understand study options and pathways prior to the clinician presentations. This event filled quickly last year! Click here to get tickets.
Opportunity to join The Royal Children's Hospital Health Literacy Youth Advisory Collective
The Royal Children’s Hospital is seeking expressions of interest from young people aged 14 – 25 who have an interest in content creation that helps promote health messaging to other young people.
If you’re keen to learn more about how you can create short form social media content that spreads health information that young people can trust, (or if you know a young person who would be interested, let them know)! All contributors will receive remuneration and recognition for their work as well as training and upskilling from staff at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
You can get involved in this project in ways that suit your schedule including:
- Creating short videos, animations or static posts related to health topics from wherever you are based (yep, you can submit remotely)
- Joining monthly on-site content creation sessions at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Parkville – the next session is on 16 April.
They’re particularly keen to hear from young people who:
- Want to grow and refine skills in content creation with feedback and guidance
- Have an interest in health promotion and debunking mis- and disinformation
- Have some lived experience with the health care system or are passionate about educating others about how to access health care
