School Council Wrap-Up – December 2025

Our last School Council meeting for the year was held on 3rd December, and here are the key highlights.

Please also scroll down and show your support for our campaign for investment into WSPS buildings and facilities.

  • Big thanks to everyone who helped make 2025 a great year for our school!
  • Principal’s Update: We’re getting ready for 2026 with new staff, updated digital technology agreements, and plans for student wellbeing. Infrastructure issues (water drainage, sewer blocking etc) are being investigated, but solutions are on the way.
  • Finance: All financial reports for November and December were approved. Budgets are on track for 2026.
  • Policies & Planning: Digital wellbeing and tech use will be a focus early next year, to ensure alignment with policies set by the Department of Education. This will include staff training planned at the start of Term 1, and user compliance agreements.
  • Social Committee: Huge achievement – over $60,000 raised this year! Next year’s events are in the works, including the Twilight Fair in March. WWCC checks for volunteers is mandatory, so please apply and get yours today at https://www.vic.gov.au/working-with-children-check.
  • WSPS Facility upgrades remain a priority for School Council.

WSPS is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and modern learning environment for all students. As our school grows, urgent upgrades are needed to improve safety, accessibility, classroom sizes, and provide a central hub and gymnasium for assemblies, arts, and sports programs. These improvements form part of Stage 2 of WSPS’s Master Plan and require strong community support to secure government funding (for more detail on the Stage 2 Master Plan, see https://www.walesstps.vic.edu.au/future-redevelopment-plans/).

Ahead of the state budget and Victorian election in 2026, a community petition and survey has been launched by School Council, to continue building awareness of needs at WSPS, and stimulate investment from the Victorian Government towards upgrading our schools buildings and grounds.

We would be grateful if all Parents, Carers, Teachers and our School Community show support for this cause by sharing your views in the survey and signing the petition to our State Member for Northcote (Ms Kat Theophanous) and The Minister for Education (The Hon. Ben Carroll).

Please be involved today:

Also, keep an eye out for QR codes around the school gates.

Thanks again to all parents, staff, and council members for your support.

WSPS Parent, Carer and community survey on our school facilities

WSPS School council are seeking support from parents, carers & our community, to share your views on our school’s infrastructure and facilities.

The short survey will help us understand community priorities and strengthen our case for investment into Stage 2 of WSPS’s Master Plan from the Victorian Government, to upgrade and modernise WSPS facilities.

Stage 2 upgrades are focused on (see https://www.walesstps.vic.edu.au/future-redevelopment-plans/):

- A central hub & gym – we don’t have facilities for whole school assemblies

- Modern classrooms – current classrooms are undersized

- Accessible spaces for all

- Improving safety

Individual responses are confidential, and results will strengthen discussions with the local Member of Parliament and other decision-makers.

Participate in the survey today (link below) and help meet the growing needs of our school, and create the school our children deserve!
