Sista Speak
On Wednesday 19 November, our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students had the privilege of attending SistaSpeak – A Walk on Country with the Gamay Rangers at Yarra Bay. The immersive tour offered a rich cultural experience, exploring significant sites including middens, ochre sites, mission areas, bimbala shells, seagrass habitats, and a fascinating talk on seahorse regeneration.
Students also enjoyed hands-on creative activities, preparing traditional bush tucker treats such as damper, lemon myrtle bliss balls, iced tea, and warragal greens triangles. It was a meaningful day connecting with culture, community, and country.
A big thank you to Ms Welch, Ms Kharitos, and Ms Johnson for accompanying and supporting our students throughout this special experience.
Remembrance Day
On Tuesday 11 November, JJ Cahill Memorial High School proudly participated in Remembrance Day commemorations both within our community and on campus. Our School Captains accompanied by Mr. Nguyen represented the school at the Bayside Mascot RSL Sub-Branch Remembrance Day Ceremony at Mascot Memorial Park, where they laid a wreath in honour of those who have served. We commend our Captain and all students who performed as part of the ceremony for their professionalism and respect.
Back at school, students gathered in the front garden for a solemn Remembrance Day assembly, exemplifying outstanding behaviour. The assembly was expertly led by our senior school leaders and Ms. Garden.
We were honoured to welcome special guest Karen Brown OAM, Justice of the Peace and esteemed JJ alumni, who joined us in reflecting on the significance of the day.
Thank you to all students, staff, and leaders who contributed to making Remembrance Day a meaningful and respectful occasion at JJ Cahill Memorial High School.
Volleyball
On Tuesday 11 November, our Year 9 girls’ volleyball team, proudly supported by players from Years 7 and 8, competed in the Volleyball Schools Cup at Sydney Olympic Park.
Dubbed “The Amazonians,” these young athletes demonstrated incredible commitment, resilience, and determination as they mastered a new sport in just three weeks. Their outstanding effort and sportsmanship on the court truly turned heads.
We are so proud of their dedication and achievements—well done, Amazonians!
