Geography news reel premiere

As part of their Geography unit, our Year 5 students researched the impacts that bushfires, floods and cyclones have on environments and communities. They then presented their information regarding natural disasters in a Year 5 ‘Newsreel’ to showcase their understanding of the unique risks presented to Australian Communities.

"Throughout the duration of Term 4 the Year 5 students have been exploring natural disasters and their role in the world. Then we invited our parents to come and watch a premiere of news reels that we made together as a class.

There were many fun things like popcorn and drinks as well as students working as “movie staff” handing out popcorn and sparkling apple juice.

Overall, The News Reel was a great experience for the us to work on video editing, acting, and teamwork. Even though we all cringed when we came on the screen!"

Our Year 5 students were also lucky to have a taste of fame when Nate Byrne, ABC's meteorologist and weather presenter, came to Port Melbourne Primary School to film the morning weather segment. You can watch Tyler discussing cyclones on our Instagram post.
