The long summer holidays are the perfect time to switch off and delve into a great story. With the upcoming age restrictions to social media for all our students under the age of 16, a book can provide the perfect alternative to scrolling and we have curated some great suggestions for all our students. These suggestions can be found in the iCentre Hub on MyMtA by choosing “What to read next” from the right-hand menu. This collection contains diverse reading suggestions for each year level and includes fiction, non-fiction and graphic novels. We are sure there is something to suit all reading tastes.

For students feeling too tired to read – try an audio book and let someone else do the reading for you. Audio books are also a great way to access stories while you travel, walk or exercise. The iCentre also has a range of eBooks for those who didn’t get a chance to borrow a book and are interested in reading on a screen. These can be accessed via the OPAC on the iCentre Hub. If you are unsure how to download an eBook, check out our Tutorial section on the Hub.
Students seeking a comfort read, may also like to try the Icelandic tradition of jolabokaflod (Christmas book flood). This tradition is celebrated on Christmas Eve and involves giving and receiving new books, then lying around reading and drinking hot chocolate. Does it get any better than that?
Whatever your holidays hold, we hope you can find some time for reading and we look forward to hearing all about your adventures when you return in 2026, whether they be bookish, cultural, travel or culinary. Merry Christmas to all from the iCentre.
