We did it! Another academic year complete. There has been excellence in all its forms: academics, arts, service, extra-curricular, sports and everything in between. While there have been lots of big moments in our excellence that are evidenced by the new trophies and medals in our cabinets, I continue to be amazed by the small moments that make our College a better place for all: a student voice at Consiglio; a lift buddy for someone on crutches; peer-to-peer tutoring at Junior Study; a conversation with a counsellor when a friend is concerned for their friend....there are so many.
I am also contemplative of our positive progression. It is the intentional way we are moving up the many ladders we choose to climb. In sport, we have grown our premierships from 8 in 2024 to 23 in 2025. We have 5 more runner up positions. In our CaSSSA major events since 2023, Mount Alvernia College has inched our way along, Moving from 7th to 6th to 5th position in swimming; from 7th to 7th to 4th in cross country and 4th to 5th to 4th in athletics.
These results cannot happen unless our girls, often guided by their coaches, make an intentional decision to attend their training sessions with determination, set goals, give their best and support each other on the journey. We have proved it to be true: you can choose to be 1% better every day. Thank you Sports Office and coaches!
So, my message to our students is an enormous thank you for choosing the big and small moments of effort that contribute to making Mount Alvernia College a place of improvement and excellence. In 2026 as our year of courage, there is more work to do to make sure our campus is a place of welcome and inclusion for all. It is good work and we are committed to it.
