End of Year Reports

We are writing to let you know that next Friday reports will be released and accessible through compass. We take this opportunity, as we do every year, to gently remind all parents about the true purpose of these reports.

A school report is not about comparing your child to anyone else in the class. Its sole purpose is to report on the quality of learning your child has achieved in relation to the standards expected for their current stage at school.

The dedicated staff at Our Lady Star of the Sea are deeply committed to helping your child reach their own personal best and continually move beyond that level. Our teachers work tirelessly to accurately assess where your child is achieving and then plan effective ways to extend their learning! A key strategy for this is setting reasonable, attainable goals for them to work towards throughout the year. The grades provided offer a good indication of progress, but please remember: They are never the ultimate reason your children attend school!

Let's keep the focus on individual growth and effort. As the philosopher Charles Roth reminds us:

“In your personal world there is no such thing as competition. When you do your best, you are a winner, and when you haven’t done your best, you’ve lost to the person you might have been. But such a loss is only temporary. The finish is only a starting line. Just begin again!”

We encourage you to use this report as a positive tool for celebrating effort and planning the next steps in your child's learning journey.
