Year 12 VM Literacy Recycling Project — A Community Effort for Global Impact
Last term, our Year 12 Vocational Major Literacy students took the lead on a meaningful project — the WHSC Year 12 VM Literacy Recycling Project, which ran from 18th to 30th June 2025. With the support of the school community and partnership with AH Recycling Group, students called for donations of pre-loved items to be sent to communities in need across the Middle East and Africa.
From posters to checklists and packing, students rolled up their sleeves and got involved in every step of the process. Staff and students responded with generosity, donating everything from clothes and shoes to toys, books, and household linens. By the end of the drive, we had filled 20 boxes and 40 bags — an incredible effort that reflects the kindness and giving spirit of our school community.
The success of the project was visually captured in a donation breakdown pie chart, showing that the largest category of donations was clothing, school uniforms, shoes, and bags. Other categories included toys, underwear, linen, and reading materials.
A special thank you goes to Ms Phyllis Chee, Mr Gary Campbell, and Mr Khairi Razaai for guiding the project, and for volunteering their time to help safely load the goods onto the delivery truck.
This project was more than just a recycling drive — it was an opportunity for students to lead with purpose, empathy, and initiative for a cause beyond the classroom. We’re proud of everyone who contributed and made this project a success!
