MOE’S REPORT 29/07/2025
Hello, konnichiwa. How was your holiday?
I have been staying at the Kelly family and spent great time with them. I will share my best memory of the holiday - visiting Philip Island with Nichole (host mother), Amelia (in G3), and Poppy (in G5).
🏠 Lovely House
We went to Philip Island and stayed for one night in a lovely house. We enjoyed playing cards, building animals with LEGOs, and watching “My Neighbor Totoro”. When we were watching Totoro, it was storming outside. That’s fine because it felt like a natural orchestra for the movie. The next morning, it stopped raining and the sun came out. We had Japanese fluffy pancakes called hot cakes while looking at the sea through the windows.
🦘 Bush Walk & Cute Wallabies
We walked in the bush quietly and found cute faces! The wallabies were standing on their hind legs and stared at us - so cute! I had seen wallabies at the zoo before, but seeing one in the wild was a completely different experience. It was much more exciting. We saw over 30 wallabies that day. Another highlight was the amazing trail. There was green on this side and the blue sea on the other side. I felt the power of nature. It was a whale watching spot, so girls tried calling out whales and I saw a big wave. Maybe that was their shy reply.
🏝️ Beautiful Beach
We found funny rocks at the beach. They had ring patterns on the surface. I wondered if they were shaped by waves or if they used to be coral. Then, I built a sand castle decorated with shells and seaweed which Poppy and Amelia had found. Girls tried to get to the water as close as they could, but ended up getting their feet wet. We perfectly kept the beach house rules like “build sand castles” “get your feet wet” and “smile, giggle, laugh!”
🐧 Penguin Parade
We went to see the penguin parade at the end of the trip. Luckily, it wasn't as cold as I had expected. Thanks to Nichole's idea, we could sit on the sand and watch penguins from a very close spot. The tiny penguins were adorable! Some of them walked straight toward the goal, while others waited for their friends, and a few penguins seemed afraid of the seagulls. On the boardwalk, I could hear the penguins calling clearly.
Amelia and I will have another chance to see the penguin parade. We hope to see even more penguins next time!
I’m looking for a host family for September. I’m excited to share Japanese culture with you and to experience daily life in Australia together. If you are interested, or would like to find out more information about hosting, then please contact Japanese Intern coordinator, Mrs.White by email. Jessica.white@education.vic.gov.au
