Science Spotlight

This term in Science we will be learning all about Physics. Our year level units are called:

Preps: ‘On The Move’

Grade 1: ‘Light & Sound’

Grade 2: ‘Push & Pull’

Grade 3: ‘Motion & Magnetism’

Grade 4: ‘Cold, Warmer, Warmer, Hot!’

Grade 5: ‘Light: Absorbed, Reflected & Refracted’

Grade 6: ‘Electric’

Prep

Last term we learnt all about dinosaurs. We loved learning all about how these fascinating creatures lived long, long ago. Here are some amazing pictures we created.

Grade 1

We finished term 2 revising what we had learnt about animal coverings. We learnt so much about feathers, fur, skin and scales on all sorts of animals.

Grade 2

In term 2 we worked very hard on our animal research projects. We created amazing dioramas of our animals using air dry clay. Here are some pictures of our creations.

Grade 3:

This term we are learning about how things move. We will explore how pushing and pulling can make things go faster, slower, or change direction. Using our bodies and everyday objects, we’ll test different kinds of movement. We’ll do fun experiments to understand how force affects motion.

Grade 4

In science this term, we are learning about heat and temperature. We will explore what makes things feel hot or cold and how to measure temperature. We’ll test different materials to see which ones keep things warm or cool. Through hands-on experiments, we’ll see what happens when things are heated or cooled.

Grade 5:

This term we are learning about light and how it helps us see the world around us. We will explore how light travels, how shadows form, and how light reflects off surfaces. We’ll also look at colours and how light can bend or change. We will design and test ideas that use light in creative ways.

Grade 6

In science this term, we are learning about electricity and how we can use it to power things. We will build simple circuits using wires, batteries, switches, lights, and motors. We’ll explore how electrical energy works and how to use it safely. At the end of the unit, we will design and build a toy or gadget that runs on electricity incorporating our 3D printers.
