Welcome to the Kitchen Year 3
This term we welcome the Year 3’s to the kitchen for the first time.
We started the lesson by gathering in our 4 cooking groups, Team Broad beans, Team Nasturtium, Team Parsley and Team Warrigal Greens .
The first task in our groups was having a go at identifying different herbs and plants from the garden, from familiar herbs like parsley and mint to some more unfamiliar ones like lemon scented geranium and pineapple sage.
Teams did a great job looking, smelling and discussing to label all of the plants. We then picked all of the leaves from our herbs and used them to create the hair or the outline of our head for our fruit portraits.
Using different seasonal fruits everyone created a colorful portrait of themselves, adding some features we use in cooking for our senses including, eyes, ears, mouth and nose and garnishing with pomegranate and sunflower seeds and edible flowers .
Then came time to taste our plates and all the flavours of our fruity portraits, sweet, sour, juicy and delicious!.
