End of Term 2 Recap

Grade 6 Students Explore Notan Art

At the end of Term 2, Grade 6 students dove into the world of Notan art which is a traditional Japanese art form that explores the balance between light and dark. Students created compositions that focused on the use of theme, contrast, and symmetry. By cutting and flipping shapes, they explored how positive and negative space can work together to create harmony. Each piece tells a story through bold visual contrast and thoughtful design. The students showed great creativity and focus throughout the process, and their finished works make a powerful impact.

Grade 5 Collage Inspired by Tony Albert

Towards the end of Term 2, Grade 5 students explored the work of Indigenous artist and activist Tony Albert. Focusing on his series Conversations with Margaret Preston, students learned about cultural appropriation in art and how Albert reclaims and reinterprets Aboriginal culture. Using these ideas as inspiration, students created vibrant vase and flower collages, reflecting on how imagery can carry meaning and history. They discussed the importance of respecting cultural symbols and the role artists play in starting important conversations. Their collages are thoughtful and showcase creativity and a  growing understanding of Indigenous perspectives in contemporary art.

Grade 3 and 4 Paper Clay Magnet Creations

The semester wrapped up with Grade 3 and 4 students designing and crafting their own mini fridge magnets using paper clay. Each student sculpted a unique magnet, from food items to fun characters, learning about form and detail along the way. To take their designs further, they created custom packaging for their magnets, thinking like real product designers. Students considered how colour, fonts, and layout could attract customers and reflect their product’s style.
