School Wide Positive Behaviour Support

Making Our School the Best Place to Learn and Play

At Wonga Park Primary School, we want every child to feel safe, included, and ready to learn. One of the ways we achieve this is through School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS).

SWPBS is an evidence-based approach used in schools across Victoria and around the world. It helps us create a welcoming environment where students know exactly what’s expected of them, and where positive behaviours are noticed and celebrated.

Our three key expectations are simple but powerful:Be Safe. Be Kind. Be a Learner.

When students follow these expectations, they not only help create a positive school environment, but they also build the skills they’ll need for life—like respect, responsibility, and resilience.

We are proud to work alongside a Department of Education SWPBS coach who supports our staff with training, guidance, and data-informed strategies to ensure SWPBS is tailored for our school community.

Our teachers also use the DET Positive Classroom Management Strategies (PCMS)—eight evidence-informed practices that help maximise learning time, reduce disruptions, build positive relationships, and support student wellbeing.

The benefits are clear:

- More time for learning because classrooms are calm and focused

- Fewer behaviour issues and more positive interactions

- Stronger relationships between students and teachers

- A happier, safer school for everyone

Grade 3 Student Voice Leaders Shine at Assembly

During this week’s assembly, our Grade 3 Student Voice representatives proudly shared an important message about our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) program and how it helps make our school a great place to learn and play.

They spoke about our School Expected Behaviour Matrix, which is built around three simple but powerful expectations: Be Safe. Be Kind. Be a Learner. The students explained that when we follow these expectations, we create a friendly, respectful, and safe environment for everyone. To recognise and celebrate these positive behaviours, teachers and staff hand out positive tokens. Each token is a way of saying, “Great job! You’re showing our school values.”

  • Be Safe tokens are given when students make choices that keep themselves and others safe.
  • Be Kind tokens are given when students include others, use polite words, and help someone in need.
  • Be a Learner tokens are awarded when students try their best, stay focused, and persist even when challenges arise.

Our Student Voice leaders reminded us that collecting tokens isn’t just about earning rewards – it’s about showing that we care for our school and each other. Every token we earn makes our school a better place for everyone.

A big congratulations to our Grade 3 leaders for confidently delivering such an important reminder: Let’s all keep working together to Be Safe, Be Kind, and Be a Learner every day!

Many thanks,

The SWPBS Team
