Ceramic family tree leaves

You may have noticed that in the last couple of weeks the ceramic leaves that many families purchased last semester, are now up on the wall! Thankyou to those that supported this fundraiser for the new kiln for the Artroom!

130th Birthday Tea-towel

It's not too late to purchase a tea-towel to mark the 130th birthday of our school!

I wonder if you've been up to the office to see the example and find your face on there!

This is a great way for you to support the purchasing of a new kiln for the Artroom! Thankyou!

In the classroom this week...

Prep

Students will be adding colour to their Trunchbull picture and framing their work ready for display.

*A big shout out to WM Building Group who have provided many many timber blocks needed for a Prep sculpture project coming up. Thankyou so much!

Grade 1 and 2

Students will be adding paint pen details to their painted plate from last week, focussing on pattern, repetition and colour choices.

Grade 3 and 4

Students will be painting sticks and threading beads to add to their ceramic vase creation from last term. They will also make a chicken out of clay to connect to their SAKGP.

Grade 5

Students will begin a new project using mosaic tiles. This week they will design a picture of their choice, using ‘Australia’ as their inspiration.

Grade 6

Students will be continuing to make a gift for their Dad’s for Father’s Day. They will also transfer their 3D name onto their fence.

Physical Education

Year 3–6 House Athletics Day – What a Day! 🎉

Last Monday, our Year 3–6 students turned on the talent (and the smiles!) for a fantastic House Athletics Day. The energy was high, the cheering was loud, and the sportsmanship was outstanding.

A huge thank you to our amazing parent volunteers — your time and support helped make the day such a success.

Congratulations to all the students who have qualified for the District Athletics Carnival next month. We can’t wait to see you out on the track, representing our school with pride!

Reminder: Week Four of Gymnastics Program

Week four of the Prep to Year 2 gymnastics program is on this Thursday. Students will continue to develop their skills with fun new activities that further build balance, coordination, and strength. Please make sure your child wears comfortable, appropriate clothing for movement.

We’re looking forward to seeing how far they’ve come!

In the classroom this week...

Prep

This week in PE, our Prep students will continue strengthening their underarm throwing skills, with an emphasis on applying their technique in more dynamic and game-like situations.

During the lesson, students will:

Practise throwing towards moving targets to develop timing and coordination
Participate in relay-style activities that combine throwing with movement
Work cooperatively in small teams to solve challenges using their throwing skills

The focus will be on accuracy, teamwork, and maintaining good technique during more active play. These experiences help solidify the foundational skills students have been developing while encouraging communication, collaboration, and enjoyment in a supportive environment.

Year 1 & 2

Our Year 1 & 2 students will be wrapping up their basketball unit with a focus on ball control.

They’ll have the chance to put their learning into action through fun, small-group drills, showcasing the skills they’ve developed over the past weeks.

Year 3 & 4

Our Year 3 & 4 students will be wrapping up their basketball unit with a focus on ball control.They’ll take part in small-group drills to sharpen their skills, and will also enjoy some short, friendly games to put those skills into practice in a game-like setting.

Year 5 & 6

Our Year 5 & 6 students will finish their basketball unit by demonstrating their skills in full game situations, using real match play to showcase the techniques and strategies they’ve been practising.

STEM

National Science Week

This week is Science Week (Monday 10th- Friday 15th of August).

The Theme is “Decoding the Universe: Exploring the Unknown with Nature’s Hidden Language”. Have a look at more details about free local activities here.

Grade 1 & 2:

Students will handle and observe real specimens of insects, as well as plant specimens, noticing roots, bulbs, stems, leaves, flowers and fruits. They will then create groups based on the observable features of these living things.

Grade 3 & 4:

Students will finalise their presentation about the lifecycle of an insect, and then create a model of it, ensuring their design meets the requirements of a brief. They will then use these models in an experiment that will demonstrate how insects pollinate flowers.

Grade 5 & 6:

Students will observe and record any changes in their seed and bread experiments. They will then use their knowledge of changing environmental conditions to begin their Evolving Habitats project. This week, students will select a habitat and begin planning how they might create a model of this - whether that is a diorama or poster, or a digital version. In the following weeks, students will explore the interplay between the environmental conditions of their habitat and the living things within it.

Performing Arts

Prep

Students will continue to learn their production songs; When I Grow Up and Miracle. These tracks can be found here to help practise with your child/ren. Students will continue to learn the actions to both of these songs.

Grade 1 and 2

Some classes will complete last week’s lesson, developing characters who are in a restaurant, and creating a problem and solution for these characters. Other classes will focus on imagination and setting, working together to design their own unique location for a short scene. Students will decide what their setting looks like, who or what lives there, and what events might take place. Using voice, movement and expression, they will bring their imagined setting and characters to life in short performances for their peers.

Grade 3 and 4

Students will review their Matilda Jr. songs - Chokey Chant, Hammer, School Song and Smell of Rebellion. They will also learn actions to Smell of Rebellion and Revolting Children. Students will begin to learn where they will be on the stage for their songs.

Grade 5 and 6

Students will continue to build confidence in singing their Matilda Jr. songs;

Grade 5: Bruce, School Song, Revolting Children

Grade 6: Bruce, Revolting Children, When I Grow Up, Miracle

They will also continue to learn dance moves for Revolting Children, School Song and Miracle. Students will also be introduced to the song that is sung in the bows.
